The move Secretary

Posted by beautymarked on November 14, 2007, at 17:30:19

Hi all, I've been lurking for a few weeks, so this will be the first of my very few posts. I've recently ended short-term therapy and like a lot of you was trying to figure out my transference feelings to handle them in a healthy way....which brings me to the topic of my post. Have any of you seen the movie Secretary and LOVED it? It has James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal(sp?) in it. Maggie emerges from a mental care facility and works for James Spader and falls in love with him in a very unique way. I recommend you all to watch it (tried to convince one of my friends to watch it...and unfortunately she couldn't stomach it and hoped maybe you all could). Does anyone relate to this and therefore their attraction to their therapist? I feel like I've projected my love for this movie onto my therapist...him being like James Spader, stoic but with a sexy, sensitive center....

The movie needs a caution for anyone triggered by sexual domination of women - even the consensual kind. Also contains images related to SI.

It's a very well-made and interesting film - but not for some women who have been victimized.

I apologize. I have seen "trigger" posted in previous posts, but I forgot about it when writing mine. If someone could edit it and put trigger in it for me, that'd be great...or remove the thread if it's too much.

I think probably Abbie just meant the movie *itself* needs a warning about those issues, before someone sees it and is blindsided by those ideas/images, not that your thread needs a warning.

I don't think you said anything or described anything that is usually triggering.

I don't think I'm familiar with that movie - I'll have to take a look.

10derheart is right & I should have been more clear. I just wanted to warn folks before they rent it. It has a BDSM theme. If you are OK with that - it's really interesting and well acted, IMHO.

I think bondage, domination, sadomasochism.

Please someone correct me if that's wrong.

This film triggered me big time...so much so that I've had to wait several days before responding to this thread.
A friend rented it from a video place, and when it got to the place where he hit her, I screamed, and made my friend turn it off- she couldn't get it turned off fast enough in time, and I couldn't stop screameing, "He HIT her, he HIT her!!" and I was crying, VERY distressed. and angry...so, so angry I can feel my blood starting to boil even now just thinking about it

I wanted to kill him... really really beat him, (oh god I cna't type now) to death with a baseball bat I can't stand that actor even now won't wathch him he makes me SICK

just glad i didn't see in a cinema i would have hurt somebody trying to get out of there triggers trigers big time oh, gotta go now.

It was consensual, (to say the least).

I didn't find it challenging. Good acting, reasonable script.

But "The Piano Teacher" was more than I could stomach.
