Just venting

Posted by Angela2 on September 19, 2005, at 12:25:23

I really upset my mom today becuase I just couldn't let myslef go to work. Not that it's any of her business anyway. She said " I go to work everyday and I don't like it either but I go." I want to be someone like that. I dunno. She was really upset and If I quit my job I don't think I'll be able to face my family members for a long time. I think I'm going to try to keep this job even though I don't like it. I have no where else to go. I posted my resume on monster dot com and I haven't been getting any responses for the work I'm looking for. I really understand why my paretns are pissed. I feel really bad about making them feel bad. They are so mad at me.

Do you want to put some distance between yourself and your family? Is it something you need?

Hi ShortE, nice to hear from you.
The thing is, I'm 22, just out of college. I don't have the money to pay for my bills, therapy, a separate house, meds, so my parents are helping me out. I kind of can't distance myself from them right now. Even though I want to. I think I still rely on the for support too.
I just hate making them mad.

If your olds are anything like mine; what you see as angry could very well just be frustration. I still see it in mine. They want so very much for us to be happy and successful and getting everything we want out of life. And when they see that not happening and don't know what to do to help it hurts and frustrates them. My mum actually said to me once; "You're so frustrating it's infuriating." Nothing's changed on that score.

Also, because they can't know what it's like to be us, they interpret what they see and here through the filters of their own beliefs and values, their experiences at our age and the perceptions of the 'advantages we have that maybe they didn't. Hence your mum's comments about work.

Just take good care of you okay.

Hm...Interesting way of looking at things. I think your paretns are a little like mine too. They also don't want me to be a leach off them if I quit my job. Which I completely understand.

Your parents just don't understand. I've been through that. In high school, my mom accused me of being on drugs because I slept so much. I was actually so depressed that I was suicidal. If you think they are capable of understanding, you might try to educate them with either printed articles, or with having your T talk to them. I wish you luck. You're like a younger me.
