I think you are having a hard time dealing with the lack of medicine. You need something to fill the void. Meditation, exercise, breathing exercises, social activity.

Maybe go for a walk. Walk as quckly as you can comfortably, and let your body do the breathing.

I hope you feel better.

Actually, every time I try to relax with breathing exercises, I get all upset - I'm breathing too fast, or not often enough, or I yawn in the middle of a breath (hello??!!! I'm trying to get oxygen to my brain as fast as I can). Now I'm to the point where I distract myself with something else, usually soothing music, pick up something to try to read, and, before I know it, I am breathing much more peacefully.

So, it's not just you. I get very freaked out with the breathing thing.

Learning to control your breathing can be calming but if you deprive yourself of oxygen you are going to get upset and feel shaky.

First practice pacing. Set some moderate music, children's music is good, and practice breathing to the rhythm. Plus, kids music isn't scary so that is good. Then speed it up or slow it down but don't breathe so deeply that you are holding your breath. Just pull in and then out. You have control. It helps me to count to myself. In -1-2-3, out 1-2-3. It takes practice.

But it is my favorite self-soothing technique.
