Expert for the faith board

Posted by nikkit2 on October 27, 2004, at 6:51:58

Redirecting here as requested by Dr Bob.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

How about a Guest Expert in FAITH.. in theology, but not nessesarily tied down to one specific religion.

The problem with that is, I can see that if we have an expert of the Jewish faith, we would then need one on Catholosism, one on Baptists, one on Buddhism, one on Seikism etc etc etc.

As an example, I have a friend who is a Master at Oxford Univisity in Theology. He isn't attached to any specific religion, but could be called an expert in many different faiths.
This particular gentleman wouldn't be available to be a guest expert here I'm afraid (he has an incredibly busy working working life, and an incredibly busy personal life), but maybe this would be a good compromise to keep all faiths happy.

IMO, theology would be fine, but different religions of interest to people here would be fine, too...

Hi Nikki,
I would love to have an expert too. Zen expert would be really fun.
I used to live for the topic of faith and religion.
I find it so interesting how we humans form belief systems around the unknown.
thanks for the suggestion.
Jai

I think a theologian would be an excellent idea. I would like to hear someone on Buddhism, but if we get someone with an interest in comparative religion we should be able to ask questions about whatever religions we like even though the theologian could even be an athiest.

I know a couple, but couldn't ask them without them knowing I post here...

Does Dr B know of anyone to ask?

alexandra_k, can you email Dr. Bob their names and have him contact them? This sounds wonderful.
Jai
I am hungry for a good discussion.

Aah. But I've been through most of the first year curriculum for 'philosophy of religion' and some of the third year stuff... I am concerned that people who know me would associate me with my posting name soon enough. While I don't mind if my faith-board identity is known, I have reservations about my posts on some of the other boards (especially psychological babble). I am sure there must be a department of religious studies at the University of Chicago?

I hesitate to call myself an expert, but I do have some seminary training, and would be willing to try to respond to questions about Evangelical Christianity from sincere seekers.
