God Speaks to Me Through Emails...

Posted by Dena on July 30, 2004, at 9:01:16

Ok, in order to partially redeem my previous post today about spam/tofu/haggis/Hawaii... I'm going to share with those who care to read, God's email word for me for today.

I receive these words daily, through my email box, and they never fail to touch me, to be relevant to what I'm going through, and to let me know that my God loves me, and cares about the details of my life, as well as the "big picture".

May it bless you as well:

Beloved, you have come through a time of change when many issues have been resolved, but there are yet a few things that need to be cleared up and settled. Do not allow these disputes to cause you to forget your true value and purpose. Your life is not predicated on the facts of your human existence, but on the truth of My existence, says the Lord. There is a difference between fact and truth. The facts of your trials and tribulations do not reflect eternal truth. Now is the time to make that distinction and rise up to obtain and embrace eternal truth. Your afflictions are momentary, but your redemption is eternal. Be renewed in the joy of your salvation. Let faith arise!

That's a really good thought dena.
When God speaks do you consider it revelation or inspiration?

rev·e·la·tion n
1. information that is newly disclosed, especially surprising or valuable information
2. a surprisingly good or valuable experience
3. the revealing of something previously hidden or secret
4. a showing or revealing of divine will or truth

in·spi·ra·tion n
1. something that stimulates the human mind to creative thought or to the making of art
2. somebody or something that inspires somebody
3. the quality of being stimulated to creative thought or activity, or the manifestation of this
4. a sudden brilliant idea
5. divine guidance and influence on human beings
(Encarta® World English Dictionary)

God can inspire us how to live our life according to His will, but when he reveals something we proceed using inspiration to lead us along that revealed path one baby step at a time.

Why doesn't the world as a whole believe in continuing revelation? If God reveals something to an individual it usually (of course) begins with a revelation concerning themself. Most people don't want to admit they need to repent, so they discount it and claim there is no revelation. Check out all the "thus saith the Lord"'s in the scriptures and see if each one clearly states a commandment, some instructions, the reward and the punishment. Many times the prophet was put to death for stating it.

There is revelation today just as anciently. There is inspiration available to all. There is a plan complete with eternal rewards and punishments, which leads one to suspect we cannot be saved without knowledge. We should believe in the whole Bible, and take note of the revelations; not just the book of "The Revelations", but the revelations contained in all Testaments.

Here's 513 examples:http://scriptures.lds.org/query?words=%22thus+saith+the+Lord%22&scripturesearch_button=Search
I would like to find one reference that doesn't include instructions and descriptions of eternal consequenses. Have you ever received a revelation? My understanding stretches as I think and write about it.

One Last thought or perhaps question: Is it the writer who writes "thus saith the Lord" or is it part of the revelation itself? The Prophet receives the revelation and to state it clearly as god's will, writes "thus saith the Lord". Maybe I will read all 513 Sunday.

Rayww -

I'm sure that using a lower case "D" in my name was an accidental oversight. At least, it's how I'm choosing to receive it.

I'm not sure how many people are interesting in joining you in a Christianity vs. Mormonism discussion. In my experience, such discussions usually end in futility, as each "side" is rather convinced they already grasp the truth.

By the way, you'll have to indulge my pet peeve here, but it's the Book of The Revelation. Singular. Not RevelationS.

It's just one of those little irksome things I feel compelled to correct. It's a rather common misconception among those who hear it mispronounced frequently.

As for whether God speaks in revelation or inspiration, He does both. He can speak any way He wants to - He's God. He's restricted by nothing but His own nature.

Shalom, Dena

I try to catch all the incidentals, but I'm afraid my seplling and capitals run away form me. "The Revelation" I can't beleive I put an "S" on that. How chaotic. this wasn't a mormon vs christian discussion. i'm an mormon and you're a christian, i talk and you talk. it's not a vs. but i'll quit for a while if i'm gettnig annoying.

life is chaotic this time of the year and sitting here is a retreat, but not always a treat.

I hop e you didn't think I was challenging your post when I asked the question about inspiration adn revelation. I seriously thought it was a good discussion question, and I enjoyed writing to it.

I agree with your post about God speaking through email.
