Green tea and cortisol

Posted by linkadge on November 14, 2017, at 17:12:57

More evidence / research behind the cortisol lowering effect of green tea.

To add, my anxiety has been rising and I have been having early morning wakenings that I can't seem to get under control. I dropped drinking green tea about 6 months ago. I'm going to add it back and see what happens.

have you tried the green tea extract pills? I was taking a good bit, then I read about some cases of liver toxicity, and...yeah. that was the end of that, lol.

some companies are making black tea extract in pill form now. the few products ive seen mostly have it mixed in with other supplements, for cardiovascular health, etc., although I think I did see one product at an online vitamin discount shop w/ just the black tea extract in it.

I hope resuming your green tea drinking does the trick. have you ever tried l-theanine? my vitamin place was having a sale, so I stocked up on "Suntheanine" (the company apparently does quality control, etc.). I haven't been taking it regularly, but a couple hundred milligrams, on and empty stomach, seems to help me simmer down and brightens my mood a bit, when needed.

thanks for the link btw.

Hey,

Yeah there may be some synergistic effect between the theanine and the ECGC in terms of reducing cortisol.

I prefer to just drink the tea, vs. an extract.

I've been having frequent nighttime wakenings, late sleep onset AND early morning wakenings.

Its annoying because last year I was sleeping like a baby at this time. I think my switch from mirtazapine to nortriptyline might be responsible.

you're probably doing the right thing by drinking the tea instead of popping the pills. I've just gotten so into Orthomolecular, with its emphasis on taking as much as one can tolerate, that...I think I've pushed it a bit far, lol.

I do kinda sorta recommend Suntheanine, though. Its non-sedating, calming, etc.

Green tea is something I forget about. During the summer, I find it cooling.

Thinking about it, I'll take it up again. I have hyper arousal too.

Thanks

Yeah, morning wakeneings are the worst, especially when they occur on the weekend (typically when I would be able to sleep in).

Since changing from mirtazapine to nortriptyline my sleep has dropped from 9 hours to about 6-7. I notice the loss.

On the flipside, I am nowhere near as fatigued in the day (paradoxically). Nortriptyline doesn't leave me feeling hung over. However, I miss being able to sleep my life away. That was the best.
