Need help - want a fast acting mood stabilizer

Posted by Alvin on August 25, 2007, at 15:43:11

Is there anything in the alternative treatment sphere that can help me with mood control? I currently take 100 mg lamictal, 20 g geodon, .25 mg requip and 20 mg prozac.

My pdoc is trying to get me up to 200 mg lamictal but I can't seem to do it; couldn't go up on the geodon either. Is there a natural remedy that might work?

Taurine can work fairly quickly. Its good for rapid cycling. I'd see what 500mg does for you.

Its cheap as anything.

Omega-3 can be very good too, but sometimes takes longer to have benifit.

I did well on Low dose SSRI + Taurine + omega-3

Thanks lindkage;
did you experience any side effects with taurine, either alone or in combo with meds like mine?

Alvin, totally agree with linkadge... taurine and fish oil are great mood stabilizers.
Two other supplements that may help are glycine and lithium orotate.

i'm really hoping that these supplements will be what I need to keep from going up on lamictal or geodon; I'm extremely sensitive to meds, so I'm hoping, really hoping they can help prevent relapse

Taurine may either interact or synergise with lamotrigine. I havn't taken the two together.

Tryptophan may interact with the fluoxetine and may (theoretically) cause serotonin syndrome.

You may do with less fluoxetine + some tryptophan.
