Lou..it could just mean the poster might be a Canadian. We're famous for putting eh's at the end of some of our sentences!

Justherself54,
Does that also include French Canadians? If there are any French Canadians reading this, could you verify or not?

Is that from North or South Carolina?

Sorry, but I think I want to vomit at the idea of this study of yours. My T asked if I couldn't have my posts deleted and say I don't want to participate in the study. HAH. I know you would never do that. So, I will just go vomit and make sure I tell very one I know that U of C has one crap Dept. of Psychiatry. Course most people in the Chicago area already know that.

I honestly can't answer that Lou. My friend's husband is French Canadian and he says it but I've only heard him speak English. I'll have to try to remember to ask him if it's used when he's speaking French to his family.

Please don't post anything that could lead others (such as members of the U of C Dept. of Psychiatry) to feel put down.

But please don't take this personally, either, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express oneself are/is in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, before I hear about details such as questionaires, I need to know WHAT THE STUDY IS ABOUT, Then I can make an informed choice about whether I want to post or not during the time the research is going on, and whether I want to answer questionaires.

I'm trying to be careful about what I say about the study because I don't want to bias the results. You'd definitely be informed about any questionnaires before you were asked to answer them. I'm sorry if this isn't as much information as you'd like.

Hi Dr. Bob - thanks for this post. It sounds to me as though certain folks with similar problems to 'ours' have been informed of PsychoBabble as a resource for themselves. I feel a LOT better after reading this post. Not that I was feeling dreadful, but somehow the result of th 'tone' of this post is that I feel comfortable with the idea of the research.

Thx, Kath

> Hi, everyone,
>
> Thanks for letting me know how you feel. :-) I'm trying to be careful about what I say because I don't want to bias the results. But if I'd wanted to set up an environment of secrecy, I wouldn't have said anything! The research participants will be followed for 3 months. 230 is the upper limit. They're not required to come. If they do come, they're not required to post. And they won't all come at once. Yes, it's received IRB approval.
>
> Like you, they'll be real people who come for support and education. Like you, they'll decide whether to ask for help or share joys and sorrows. Like you, they may need help getting oriented and will need to follow the board guidelines. Unlike some of you, they won't be finding this site by themselves. Please treat them the same way you would anyone else referred to this community by a third party. I'd rather let them decide what else to say about themselves. Like with anyone else, you'll decide whether to interact with them. Please don't jump to conclusions about or pressure them. I'm concerned that some newer posters may already be feeling unwelcome.
>
> I see anxiety as a natural result of change, especially with incomplete information. I apologize for not consulting with you all earlier. I think the reaction here was also a sign of the cohesiveness of this community and a desire to protect it from disruption. And I agree, a large influx of new posters could be disruptive. Do you think there should be some sort of limitation?
>
> There may also be anxiety about some posters being favored over others.
>
> I hadn't thought of the archives separately. But they may already be considered a resource for patients or trainees. What concerns do you have about that?

~ ~ ~ Now that I've read that one particular post of Dr. Bob's I'm feeling more comfortable. And I REALLY hope some of the people do become a lasting part of our community. Things are sometimes slow on some of the boards & I think some new folks might prove a very positive thing.

I wanted to give my input, as I'm just reading more of the thread now, but then I realized how VERY many posts there are & that we'd end up with a gazillion replies by Kath.

Also, - who cares if I agree or not!!

I should read them all, then (due to bad memory) jot down things I want to address & then write a post at the end, I guess.
