Do the ads know where I live? And how? They were advertising a psychotherapy practice local to my area. How do they know???

Not too worried about it, just curious if anyone knows. Cookies?

That's my understanding. The ads here changed the other day to something I was googling (or maybe typing somewhere, I don't remember). Something that had nothing to do with Babble. I didn't like it ONE BIT. It felt very intrusive. And I can't turn them off because I'm refusing cookies from here for security purposes.

So many things to buy.
So little money to do it with.
So many people wanting to sell you stuff.
We can all be grateful consumers.

it's not only your cookies... your ISP shows up on the website server wherever you go. You're not nearly as anonymous as one would like to think. It doesn't mean everyone can tell who you are but sites can tell what area you are in roughly. If you want to be completely untrackable you need to subscribe to an anonymizer service. i mean, think about it... if i were to say that i was slashing my wrists *right now* Bob could report my ISP to authorities and they can then find out who i am that way.

The last ad asked 'Is America Losing the War on Terror?' and suggested means of finding relief from depression in my area.

No wonder I don't turn them off.

They found me too, adverts for a distance learning college in Ireland (?) at first, but it was the adverts for vitamin suppliers in the UK on the alternative board that made me wonder how it knew I was looking at them. Did any of you enter your country and state on the registration form when you signed up to babble?

Thanks everyone. It is kind of strange... and it's also weird how sometimes the ads have nothing at all to do with me.

The latest was
'You can have peace with God in the middle of hurricanes'
and
'Surplus military tents for sale'.

Maybe they've forgotten where I live?
