San Francisco

Posted by Dr. Bob on February 21, 2006, at 8:09:34

Hi, everyone,

Speaking of getting together, I'm going to be in San Francisco this Fri. If anyone there would like to get together for drinks sometime after 6 pm, email me and let's try to coordinate...

I would need a sponsor for my air ticket (and passport, and visa) and I'll be there. Except I would never be granted a US visa in a few days. Takes months from where I am.

Oh well - take lots of pictures!!

I used to live right next to San Francisco. I'll visit it one of these days.

Yes, take lots of pictures to show us.

Thanks for wanting to meet us Dr. Bob.

Wonderful town. It's my second favorite town to visit.

I had the wonderful experience of spending 6 weeks there in 1971 - the hight of the Haight.

I'm envious. If the Babble party is ever there, I'll make *sure* to go. Or Washington State. :)

I just got a phone call from my eldest. She's going to be there this weekend, too.

Something going on I don't want to know about????

I lived at Parnassus and Cole in the 60s -- around the corner from Hunter S. Thompson, while he was writing "Hell's Angels." It's changed a very great deal since then. I used to think I couldn't ever live anywhere else. No more. I don't know that I could ever live there again.

My mother is still there, though, and so I spend a good deal of time driving the streets of San Francisco. I don't wear the flower in my hair, though...

That's where I got to be *very* good at driving a standard. No rolling back allowed.

It scared the bejaggers out of me at first, but it doesn't bother me at all now.

My sis and her kids are in the general area so I come that way every couple of years or so. I never get tired of it.

What's the neighborhood like now? It used to be pretty cool around there.

This year the second annual Babble birthday party will be in Toronto. There's a thread at the top of the page.

I'm hoping one of the next ones will be in San Francisco or Seattle since I've always wanted to go there.

And of course, if Dr. Bob makes it down to New Orleans, I'd love to show y'all around. Assuming I and New Orleans are still around. (Of course, your average tourist knows more about the interesting things of New Orleans than I do.)

I was in San Francisco once and the Napa Valley too. Went gliding there. And I'm proud to say I went all around San Francisco by myself from China town to the Giradelli chocolate factory on the docks and across the bridge to the redwood forrest. It was beautiful. Fondly, Phillipa

Carl & Cole? Pretty much still the same. Slightly chichi, but in a less arch sort of way. And there's still no parking...

And dang it -- if you got fam'ly round these parts, y'all c'mon by!

(Seriously, drop a line, we'll have coffee. Or a drink. Half a drink for me, since I have no tolerance, but maybe they'll put in extra onions for me...)

Hmmm...didn't LOOK like HALF last night...and I notice you DID get both those onions!! :) (kidding, you know, right?)

It was a perfect evening for SF - no wind, warm enough to walk around and I found parking. The bar was cool but a little loud. Dr. Bob is also cool but not loud at all. He was very relaxed and warm and incredibly nice. I would have loved to have more time to chat in a less challenging place.

Racer and I made our way down the street for dinner. (She is gorgeous, btw, if anyone is interested, though very married and obviously sweet on her guy.) We had great food and talked about Babble, books, music, our family and a million other things. I haven't had so much fun in a very long time.

I had the opportunity to meet Fallsfall a month or so ago too. And we had a great time as well. It has solidified for me that most people here really are themselves, on or off the board. I consider these friends a tremendous gift. Thank you, Bob, for this site and for meeting with me. You are very special.
Hugs,
Daisy

Wow! That's so cool that you guys actually met up! I'm going to get a job and make enough money so that I can go to San Francisco when Dr. Bob goes to the APA meeting in 2008(?). I'll look for my old neighborhood and I'll ride BART. It'll be so weird to see my old house.

> It was a perfect evening for SF - no wind, warm enough to walk around and I found parking. The bar was cool but a little loud.

I want to go to a bar too. I ordered a drink at a bar once, it was a peach schnapps. A friend told me to try it.

>Dr. Bob is also cool but not loud at all. He was very relaxed and warm and incredibly nice. I would have loved to have more time to chat in a less challenging place.

I'm quiet too. I'm not nearly as loud in real life as I am here. LOL OK, I'm talking about myself too much.

Do you like bars? I hate it when it's too noisy too.

> Racer and I made our way down the street for dinner. (She is gorgeous, btw, if anyone is interested, though very married and obviously sweet on her guy.)

I read in an old post that Racer was beautiful.

> We had great food and talked about Babble, books, music, our family and a million other things. I haven't had so much fun in a very long time.

That sounds super fun! I don't know if I would have anything to talk about. I don't really have a life. Do people want to hear about Hammie's adventures? LOL

So...online friends can be real life friends too. That's wonderful!

The idea of SF traffic, particularly SF traffic snarled up with the addition of the thousands of bicycles nee Critical Mass, Friday commute traffic no less led me to spend a slightly less hectic evening entertaining a well-deserving canine-friend of (infamous) Zen's at the beach.

Had I gone, well--- I've never been called gorgeous before, but there's always a first. ;)

I'd like to say Daisy's good company, but...

It wouldn't be accurate -- she's GREAT company, and I'm only sorry Dr Bob missed a wonderful dinner with us.

Dr Bob was also a charmer, and I hope we all have a chance to get together again.

I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity.
