pbc on political

Posted by James K on February 12, 2006, at 2:31:35

I got a pbc several days ago for saying the president has used his executive privilege to surround himself with like minded individuals. I thought this was accepted fact. I didn't even think that would be controversial of all things. Another guy who is blameless and innocent in all of this later agreed with me in stronger language. Is it because he said he thought? or he felt? I feel that It seams to me that administration officials who fail to follow the pary line tend to resign, based upon personal observation, this is not necessarily a bad thing, after all how can you run a ship when you are sailing in different directions. But it is not the way "I" would have run the government if I had run and won, Oh well I did neither. How is my statement different than the guy who disagreed with me. Is it because I generally was becoming a pain? I felt like I was becoming a Pain. I am in Pain. block me block me. give me a pain block hey, I guess my behavior is predictable and nobody should care what I say in regards to my further behavior because I have an eight week history. So please rephrase. so I don't accept your apology. so what? sweetie. Someone I had never corresponded with called me sweetie. We all know if I continue on this current course I wont be here so how could my apology be worth dirt? Someone said "now we all know where you live" when the thread was dead. You think I don't know that? goddamn, that is why I put it there. I don't hide. Anything I say here is just like I said it right in front of you. I leave you with my name in your ear.

well, strictly speaking, it wasn't a pbc, it was "please be respectful and sensitive." I don't know what the implications of that are in terms of site policy: I have never seen it used before. perhaps Dr.Bob can clarify its meaning.

But with repect to what it means in English:
I did not (and do not) think that your comment that Bush has a right to staff his Administration with 'like-minded' officials is either disrespectful or insensitive to anyone, including Mr. Bush if he happens to read these boards.

Is it because I generally was becoming a pain?>>

Then whatever comments that were causing pain should have been noted as such, and not inoffensive ones. I do not understand how the comments that received the novel (to my knowledge) PRS merited one.

Hey James,

I must admit, I didn't really understand that one either. And in Dr. Bob's defense, I usually do understand (although it sometimes takes multiple readings and/or some explanation) the vast majority of his PBCs (or PRS, in this case). I wonder if...perhaps he didn't use the customary "civil" because your comment was....let's say *mild* and he only felt a slight reminder was necessary. Speculation by me.

IMO, your comment was fine. Must be a matter of interpretation to see it as possibly insensitive or disrespectful. As you mentioned, gromit's (I think?) response in that thread seemed much more pointed...perhaps some could even argue sarcastic..("sharing the same brain") yet it stood with no comment...? I think Dr. B. usually is fairly strict about other posters not restating something he's just issued a warning about, so this was different. Yup. It baffled me, too.

But, I do believe choosing when and how to apply the civility rules here can be far more of an art than a science.

And that Dr. Bob and the deputies do the best they can, which could include missing things sometimes.
And that Politics is a particularly thorny area.

Just wanted to let you know, James.

Baffled.

I keep trying it in different ways in my head and I'm still baffled.

"She surrounded herself with women who had similar goals"

"He surrounded himself with other more conservative thinkers"

How is that statement anything but a fact?

The only negative intepretation would have to be from the reader (who is allowed this freedom of thought) and the PBS-er, Dr. Bob.
In order to find it a negative remark they must add their own opinion that george bush is (insert demeaning adjective) and therefore, stating that he is surrounding himself with likeminded people is innately insulting.

....Because if I said "He was a philanthropist who liked to surround himself with those of like mind"
There would be no way it would be P.B.S'd or C'd or ..

I'm not saying Dr Bob feels that way, I'm just saying that's what it's been made to look like from over here.

Exactly. That's what I was thinking, but didn't know I was thinking it until you wrote it! ;-)

: )

People do that for me quite frequently!
I always thank them too.

Really though, I just don't know how else to see it.
