Lou's request to the administration-srcsm?

Posted by Lou Pilder on March 26, 2005, at 18:52:55

To the administration,
I am requesting that you write a determination as to if the following is acceptable or not in relation to the guidlines of the forum. In particular, but not limited to, to guidline about sarcasm.

The American Heritage® Dictionary says that sarcasm is:

"A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. "

IMO, that remark was just your basic, general, silly type of humor often found here at Babble, not sarcasm.

Lou,
I apologize if that remark offended you.

I was just being silly but was not intending to be sarcastic. I'msorry if you were offended.

TE,
You wrote,[...the dictionary says...sarcasm...]
Could you clarify if the definition here is the same as the dictionary definition?

Maybe try looking up Mirriam Webster Online. I think that is the one Dr Bob uses for the automated asterisking...

Otherwise there may be an alternative definition in the FAQ.

a_k,
I belive that sometimes the past practice can give an idea of a definition. By looking at the two , we may be able to get some kind of definition that is of this forum which may be different from the dictionary definition, or may be not.

Yes, I get what you mean. Sometimes it works like that, but sometimes not. Socrates was a little too harsh on people giving him examples when a definition was asked for methinks :-)

classroom patrol

Does anyone here remember a kid in the class that always seemed to think they were classroom patrol?

It was as if their job was to take names to give to the teacher to make sure everyone was always in line and not out of order?

Or the kid who would yell, " no running in the halls?"

Just wondering... I remember that kid.

I will definitely be careful. I don't think I have offended anyone, just responded to the above post. Spriggy are you mad? Fondly, Phillipa

If so, I apologize in advance and promise to try not to be "funny" any more. But, a sense of humor sometimes works wonders, don't you think?

The civility guidelines of the site request that you not post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down, and also to remember the golden rule.

Let's be civil out there.

My classroom patrol remark was not nice.

I will send myself to the naughty corner but first, I must say that I am sorry.

I apologize.

Dinah, I sure don't want to make your job any harder than it already is!

And Philippa, no, I am not mad at all. it takes a WHOLE lot to get me mad (like stealing a piece of my chocolate or something else REALLY bad).

I think it's acceptable. Like Emmy said, more humor than sarcasm.
