It was this one:

What do you think? What's so bad? I was just honest abd said my opinion. I still think it's absurd to take a medicine to "prevent" a depression from coming back. He should just life the day and enjoy it and not be so afraid of something that might not happen, and everyone can feel down at times. He just makes himself sick while he's not.

What do you say?

Um if this was posted to me I would feel very put down. Do you really not understand why you were blocked? Those are hurtful things to say.

Sorry, but I just wanted him to get it very very very well. I think he did. Appears he left the board and just got himself some life, because that would prevent the depression coming back. I really hope that it won't come back and wish all others recovery.

It will just make it more likely that his depression would come back if he kept thinking he needs a medicine to prevent. I think my post was great help for him. He must be thankful for me. I am sure he's having good time, thanks to me who wakened him up.

He hasn't said he felt bad about my post, in fact maybe the contrary. So why others and dr bob got angry. I just talked to him why should anyone else get involved ?! thnx

There are other more civil ways to try to get your point accross.

some people do require medication to be stable, that is an issue that an individuals pdoc should be making decisions about not posters on a board, we are here for support...not medical advice.

> He hasn't said he felt bad about my post, in fact maybe the contrary. So why others and dr bob got angry. I just talked to him why should anyone else get involved ?! thnx

I do not know what he is thinking about your post, but there are rules and yes you directed it towards him but you put down another poster in doing that as well. It is about respect, the way you spoke to him was not with a respectful tone, that is the issue, regardless of what your intentions were.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but since people are here for support -- and some are in very delicate psychological states -- you have to be careful how you share your opinions. When we register here, we all agree to certain rules.

FWIW, I thought your post was really harsh.

Free country - sure, depending on where you live.

Freedom of speech - what a lot of people have died for.

Freedom from complete a-holes? Apparently not on the internet. Your post was out of line and if you bothered to read the rules and regs you'd know that. Actually, I think you did know it, but you just wanted some attention. And apparently you still do or you wouldn't bother dredging this up.

One would have to ask, if you are so much better off since you left the board, why did you come back? Maybe you should go exercise or visit friends, because it seems to me that you are bored.

I think I may be in agreement with you that some people on this site need the harsh truth, but you flat out violated the rules. It has nothing to do with free speech. I'm guessing that the Univ. of Chicago pays for this site. They have deemed Dr. Bob God here who makes the rules, so you can throw the free speech argument out the window. Funny, I always hear people try to make that "free speech" argument on other site forums when they step over the line. Don't think it holds much weight.;)

I can see the point you were trying to get across because I am also a big fan of "dealing with reality" without a constant focus on medication. Unfortunately, It is in the user agreement for this website that there should be no uncivil dialogue which I'm afraid you're quite guilty of compadre!

Oh, and now that I briefly just skimmed the FAQ this quote is at the top of the page from Dr. Bob.

"Different points of view are fine, and in fact encouraged, but your freedom of speech is limited here."

Mark H. filling in for Dr. Bob here:

Your query as to why you were blocked for a week should be directed to the Admin board, as Dr. Bob likes to keep this forum focused on medication issues.

Also, I agree with most of the comments that others have mentioned above. If you wish to participate here, you need to be consistently respectful and considerate of others.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Mark H.

Friends,
This thread about zuzu's post brings up to me something that I have wanted to write about here. I think that the goals here of support and education have the very great potential for this forum to be a beacon of light to those seeking to be rescued from the storms that they find themselves here.
But does someone finding the light have to conform to a standard of writing to be rescued?
I have a suggestion that IMO could have the potential to benifit the community. Let us suppose that we have another post like zuzu's. I suggest that the post when it is first seen, be alerted by anyone to be deleted. Then the post will be forwarded to someone here that takes the position of someone that revises it to be acceptable in relation to the guidlines of the forum, like an editor of a newspaper. Then the post in placed back on the board and there is no blocking or even a mention that what was written was not acceptable in relation to the guidlines of the forum.
I think that if this is implemented here, that it could be good for the community. I think that I have seen a multitude of very talented people here that could take zuzu's post and revise it to be acceptable here by either deleting parts that can not be revised , or revising parts that could.
Lou

Friends,
In revising zuzu's post, which I think could be very challenging, let us look at one example such as ,[...Sometimes I think this board is full of (expletives)....].
Now I have to wonder why zuzu referred to posters here in that manner. Could there be something here to be a clue to offer support for zuzu? So if I was the person editing the post, I would think about changeing that part to,[...Sometimes I think that It could be good for me if I could spend some more time here to get a better understanding about the posters here and try to understand their point of view...].

Lou - In this case, since zuzu has demonstrated his ability to write in a civil manner since his block, he likely had this ability prior to his block as well. So, he either chose not to be civil, felt he was not able to be civil due to his mood, OR perhaps, he was unaware of the rules of civility here because he never read the FAQ.

In none of those cases do I see the needs for an editor. If the person clearly in UNABLE to write civilly and need it demonstrated to them, then I would see that an editor/mentor would be helpful. That work could be done informally, perhaps via babblemail by a volunteer.

TE,
You wrote,[...a {mentor}...].
That is something that I think could be a great thing to have here. Perhaps instaed of blocking someone here, a mentor could be available to edit their posts for acceptability. Also, it could be made a requirerment in stead of blocking that the poster use a mentor for, lets say, a week.

Ironically, when someone writes a post such as yours, and then criticizes medication, I find it to be a better advertisement *for* the use of medication, not against it.

Some people just call an ace an ace, and a spade a spade. Others don't posess the talent to mentor a poster. Sometimes that is the way a person choses to express himself, as a person who gets angry at a car that cuts in front of him and yells an obsenity. I think the rules work, and it sometimes gives a person time to "regroup" and that means a timeout. Fondly, Phillipa

You wrote,[...others don't posess the talent to mentor a poster...].

A. The people here are all untalented and can not mentor anyone.
B. No one in the world has the talent to mentor anyone.
C. No one here could mentor the poster in question.
D. mentoring should not be a part of a mental-health community.
E. All of the above
F.A combination of the above
G. None of the above
H. something else.
