This is still the best mental health site by far!

Posted by Denise1904 on January 17, 2022, at 15:19:15

I just want to say that in the 20 years since I first came on here, this is still the best site I've ever come across for people experiencing mental health issues.

I stumbled across this site by chance 20 years ago, desperately searching for answers and advice. Some of the people on here were so supportive and encouraging, SLS, Linkadge and EdUK, to name a few, still imprinted firmly on my memory.

Now when I search on google or any search engine this site rarely comes up as it has been superseded by organisations with better marketing tactics. Which is such a shame. I hope this site never closes as I'm sure the data will be invaluable for research purposes.

It's really nice to see the same old faces on here, still doing their best to help other people, in spite of their own problems. It's just a shame that we all still haven't found a cure for this horrible, horrible plight.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for asking. I'm still the same I guess and still searching for answers.

Good when I take medication but when I come off them I feel awful, can't sleep properly, tight chest, palpitations, agitation, detachment, anhedonia etc etc. I just don't understand why after 20 years nothing really has changed.

You seem to be doing well, judging by your recent posts and I am pleased for you. Although wish you hadn't had to suffer the way you have.

By years of experimentation, Ive found that drugs that make me good, even on there own are klonopin 1mg, Lyrica 300mg, Zyprexa 5mg and L-Phenibut (supplement).

SSRIs help but only on high doses and I still feel uncomfortable on them, like I've got a concrete block in my chest all of the time.

What have you been doing with your life?

I haven't come across the term L-Phenibut before. A Google-search does not turn up many hits, but there is a post on Reddit that claims L-phenibut is a calcium channel inhibitor with no affinity for GABA-B receptors:

Hi

It is a Russion anti-anxiety drug that was sold up until about a year ago, on the internet as a supplement. I purchased it thinking it was a supplement and it worked within days for anxiety. I was really surprised because I did think it was a supplement but now I'm thinking its actually a drug.

You can't seem to get it online anymore so I guess they have been forced to withdraw it.

Some info on Phenibut for you

Supplemental GABA Derivitives

Though nature may limit GABA from crossing the barrier, chemists have found a way to create GABA-like supplements or analogues that can cross the barrier and function like GABA in the brain. Phenibut, or beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid Hcl, is a designer GABA analogue. Chemists added a 6-carbon ring to GABA that enables it to cross the barrier and act on GABA receptors. Another GABA analogue supplement is picamilon, or nicotinoyl-GABA. Picamilon is made by adding niacin to the GABA molecule. Once picamilion crosses the barrier, the niacin molecule is cleaved off, leaving pure GABA.

If you are looking for a GABA boost, I do well on Liposomal GABA. I'm on it all the time and I am no longer afraid to go out into the world where I meet people. I used to flee back into my bed all the time.

It is the original GABA molecule with some sort of wrapping that makes it cross the blood brain barrier more.

Hi,

I'm familiar with phenibut. I meant that I hadn't seen the term "L-phenibut" before. I thought maybe you meant L-phenylalanine, but it seems you mean regular "phenibut" without an "L-".

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. My symptoms of anxiety are purely physical, without the thoughts. Does Liposomal GABA help with that? I don't suffer with social anxiety. I feel anxious or angry most of the time, regardless of where I am so I just try and keep busy all of the time. Whether I'm lying in bed or having an interview I feel pretty much the same.

Not sure. I would think it helps both physically and mentally. Think of it as 0,5 mg Lorazepam (provided you have no benzo tolerance). What comes to mind for purely physical are beta blockers. No heart racing etc. Of course only a doctor can decide. I can imagine that you could get cardiovascular problems.
