CALCIUM, THE WORSENING OF DEPRESSION, PSYCHIATRISTS

> The two things I struggle with is of course weight. Have you found any solutions? And the second is multi vitamins, Motrin, antibiotics, calcium products and more that a helpful of vegetables mildly reverse my antidepressant response. The not able to eat more than a small tomato per day make life hard. Have you experienced this?

My first thought is that calcium might be the culprit. A single megadose of calcium precipitated an immediate worsening of depression. It took no more than 30 minutes to reach bottom. I recovered within an hour. On the most simplistic of levels, calcium and magnesium are opposites. Just for the he'll of it, discontinue calcium and see what happens. If you feel better, perhaps our neurobiology are similar.

Because they can't know the things they never thought to look for. We are far closer to these illnesses as observers than they are. We live immersed in an excruciating experience for which we work to escape and find a way to prevent it from ever plaguing us again. Think about the hours spent by a doctor working to produce and assemble data. Think about the hours spent by the most gifted of minds to cure you. The time spent in thought by researchers each day to find a cure for you pales by comparison to the hours you spend in thought dedicated to stopping your pain and joining the rest of humanity instead of being separated from it.

When we first learned of the true nature of our illnesses, we felt vindicated by learning that our struggles, pain, and failures were not a result of some inborn psychological defect or weakness. We were relieved when our doctors told us that we were in good hands and that modern medicine can cure the majority of people with our medical condition. We were horrified to learn that we were a member of the minority. We were left with two choices:

1. Do nothing and die never having lived.

2. Dedicate every waking moment figure out how to cure ourselves without the doctors.

You chose #2.

Your strength of will, your tolerance of indescribable pain, and your vigilance in the face of an unending procession of treatment failures are what keeps you alive and with the hope for a cure that is all but certain.

Yeah. It seems that the indication for calcium supplementation is becoming more and more limited. For example, studies over the past 5 years have indicated negative effects of calcium supplementation on arterial health as well as a questioning of its use in osteoporosis.

I have never supplemented with calcium on its own, yet have (at times) registered hypercalcemia on blood tests at times which correlated with particularly crappy moods.

As for multivitamins, I tend to chose ones with lower (or no) calcium. I also only use multivitamins intermittently. I seem to benefit from a multivitamin once or twice a week. After this, my mood becomes more sour.

I have been revising SAM-e lately. Again, periodic supplementation appears to help.

Doesnt dairy hinder the absorption of the calcium it contains?
