Prothipendyl alternative for sleep

Posted by Lamdage22 on November 7, 2021, at 5:05:40

Hey guys, it turns out that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prothipendyl is sold out for the remainder of the year. I agreed with my psychiatrist to up the nighttime Seroquel from 450 to 600. However this makes me feel really weird. I do fall asleep but it doesn't feel well.

Are there similar medications to Prothipendyl?

Structurally, it is closely related to chlorpromazine, but seems to be a weaker dopamine antagonist.

If you want an antihistamine for sleep I suggest cyproheptadine (Periactin).

Have you tried melatonin?

Valerian root works for some too.

I doubt my doctor will like that idea.

Yep, I have been taking 1mg lately when prothipendyl was still available, today: 2

> Valerian root works for some too.

It does very little for me. I upped the zyprexa a bit. High doses of it are more tolerable for me than high dose Seroquel. I almost felt psychotic. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing I guess.

Why's that? It's not any kind of controversial drug, and it is available in some locations (eg. Belgium) without a prescription, so you could order it from there.

I fell asleep now, although I am up again. I upped the zyprexa from 5-0-5-7.5 to 5-0-0-15 and upped melatonin from 1 to 2 mg. I usually sleep way too long while still having difficulty falling asleep at night

Does your *nordic country* have this problem too with drugs being unavailable? I'd expect it to do because its EU, right?
Its bad. They should do something politically.

Yes, some drugs that are approved elsewhere are not available here. That includes Periactin.

I don't know what 5-0-5-7.5 to 5-0-0-15 means.

Why do you want prothipendyl exactly? Is there anything particularly good about it?

We don't have that problem very often.

Prior to Prothipendyl being out of stock, it helped me sleep. But honestly, if it just takes 2,5mg more zyprexa and a mg Melatonin ontop, I don't see why I should take it when it is back in stock. It is always better to make do with less right?

Right. As for melatonin, higher doses are not always better.

So it turns out I didn't need the Prothipendyl anymore. I am fine without any other med changes. I may get a little too comfortable with my meds. Comfortable to take but not always necessary. Of course I can't quit everything, I'm not saying that but maybe I can make do with less long term.
