A limerick I wrote at age 8

Posted by gardenergirl on August 24, 2004, at 21:17:49

There once was a man who was dead
For fear of being wed.
Before he was buried
He was officially married.
And "I do" was the last thing he said.

Weird, but I like it.

This is a stellar limerick (especially for an
8 yr.old!!)

Do you stil write limericks?

I find the "aabba" rhyming scheme challenging.

Thanks for the compliment. No, I wrote a lot of poetry as a child, but I have not written any at all as an adult. I guess growing into becoming hypersensitive to criticism kind of suppressed this in me. But it was nice to find the little booklet of poems I wrote for my grandmother.

Thanks again. Nice to have a positive response!

I think it's great. I would love to be able to write one. gg the limerick is so cleaver
did you sit down to craft a limerick for a class or your own pleasure?

I don't really remember why I wrote this. I know we learned about poetry in school, and I always liked the rhythm of limericks. But this is in a little booklet I made for my grandma. I was playing with a typewriter and started typing poems. There is another page with just random letters and symbols which must have been me really just playing. But I put it altogether in to a little booklet with a cover and a dedication. She saves all this stuff and recently gave some of it back to me. It was so cute to see!

There's another poem about how I hate alarm clocks in there. So apparently, I have never been a morning person! :)

Thanks Jai, you are so sweet!
