Cymbalta Withdrawal

Posted by Alexi on July 31, 2005, at 17:30:14

Have been off four or five days (was taking 60mg for a few months), no real need I suppose, but am doing well and wanted the full range of my emotional life again. Fine until today. Headachey, lightheaded, mild nausea and mild stomachache and a weird sort of mild shooting sensation in my head (is there a name for this?). Does anyone now how long this is supposed to last. I can't taper because the pills are SR capsules and can't be broken. Thanks!

Alexi,
Yes you can taper. Your having what they call "brain zaps" and it's my understanding it only gets worse. Never had one myself but I'm scared to death I'm going to. Do yourself a favor and search the site for "homemade Cymbalta" the postings explain some of the common side effects and how you can open your time released capsules and remove pellets in order to taper the dosage. At first I though this was insane but after reading posting after posting of the horrible side effects I too am counting pellets. Effexor and Cymbalta seem to be the most difficult AD to discontinue. My advice to you is go slow!

I'm going on week two of weaning myself off Cymbalta and so far so good. I decreased from 120 mg to 60mg for 7 days and today I opened my first 60 mg capsule and removed enough pellets to decrease my dosage to 30 mg. I plan to decrease to 15 mg next week and then I hope to "cold turkey" it from there. Let me know how you are, I am curious to know how long your side effects last. Good Luck I hope you feel better soon.

Was away from home and decided to go back on until I was back in the states and talking to my Psychiatrist. Now not sure I should go off at all--though the difficulty of the withdrawal makes me like the medication a lot less....
