Should I get back on Stimulants?

Posted by dudefrombama on June 14, 2006, at 14:58:15

I'm currently not on any controlled substances. My late father prescribed Ritalin for me when I was in college, and I'm debating with myself on whether or not to start taking it again. During my college years I tried just about every drug there was and never got hooked on anything. I didn't abuse my Ritalin, either. I did have a battle with Vicodin in later years and, eventually, went to Methadone maintenance to help with those cravings. Since you don't get high on Methadone after you've adjusted to it--and because other opiates are blocked and have no effect--I started using crystal meth and coke. I ended up kicking everything in rehab (even cigarettes), and have been clean for about a month. I'm really trying to be honest with myself and, although Ritalin was never a problem for me, I want to be careful about medications. Any advice?
Thanks

I have been fearing the exact same thing. If I get prescribed stimulants, will it trigger an addiction to them or even worse, my meth addiction I have kicked. (16 months now)

I guess I don't have an answer, only the same sort of question. I'm someone on your side. Sorry it took so long to reply. That happens here sometimes. Don't lose hope.

Hi Ya!

I assume you smoked Meth (Crank) from a glass pipe? well theres 2 schools of thought here:

1-you were self medicating for an ADHD trpe issue-did the Meth calm you?-or a mood disorder.

2-you were "just wanting to get high" cos it felt good?-yes?

Cheers

No, I didn't use a glass pipe to smoke meth. Well I've tried that way, but for the most part it was I.V. The meth did calm me down at first, but with increased usage I was wired to the max. I'm still clean, however, and am reluctant to try Ritalin again.
