I was planning on graduating last year, but various mental health and real-world challenges hindered things.
This time, though, I feel like I CAN do this. I even looked up when my dissertation drafts are due, when I need to submit copies to the library, and I emailed my committee to figure out when in April they'd be willing to hear my defense.
BUT- this means precious little time for anything other than dissertating for the next 2 months.
If I'm not on babble a lot, please forgive me. I really love you all. I'm just trying to phinish.
I wish I had 30 hours a day. 12 hours for working, 10 hours for sleeping and the rest for goofing off and getting social support.
forgive me?
please don't take it personally.
I don't want to lose friends just because I want to phinish.
love,
Llurpsie

Not at all! Just finish your dissertation, we understand, and we'll still be here when you finish.
It sounds like you're really motivated! Congratulations!
Just remember that we're here if you need us.
Good luck!

Hi Ll,
Wow, two more months and you'll be done. We'll be here when you're done, we'll be here to cheer you on if you need it while you're dissertating, too.
I finish my certificate program this summer and then no more school for me. I'm way too old to learn anything else.

Disclaimer:
Dr. Noodle is not actually a Dr. only a Master. When she will be a Dr. it will not be a Dr. that provides any type of clinical advice. It will be a Doctorate of Philosophy, meaning that I will know a lot (about a little)I thought I'd use this thread to keep me up to date on my dissertation progress

My plan for tomorrow:
set up section for motivating the Study 1.
1) why it is worthwhile to study
2) why I used this approach to study itthat will be my four pages tomorrow.

I already wrote my 3.5 pages and one table for today. the rest of the day I have to do some more data analysis and use my fancy pens and fancy notebooks to write an outline for my introduction
((((((stationary)))))))
paper, that is; not the movement vector.

Sounds like you're making progress! Must be nice - I'm stuck in a deep swamp at the mo.
It is actually stationery I think - stationary is in fact the movement vector. But thats being pedantic.
Kind regards
Meri

I think I'm making progress. at any rate, I feel like I'm a much better writer than I was even 16 months ago. funny thing how writing gets better with practice, huh?
the bad news is that I won't be able to salvage as much pure text as I had hoped from my dissertation proposal.
the good news is that my thinking on this matter has become a lot clearer since I was a naive and ill-advised grad student proposing this massive project.
So, there are salvageable ideas and even salvageable arguments, although the format and style of the arguments is unacceptable to the more mature and polished Llurpsienoodle
I'm recommending the following book because it is written by someone who has expertise in counselling, creative writing, academic writing and academic advising. I think it is worthwhile to anyone pursuing the PhD and most definitely worthwhile to someone who feels stuck in the mud.
enjoy. I read this about 16 months ago, and am rereading it currently. It's a quick read with a lot of very very good advice on managing time, managing feelings, and managing the psychology of wrestling theses (note theses rhymes with feces in American English... coincidence...? I think not!)
cheerio,

Hey!
I just bought that! It looks like just what I need.... although I'm a lowly masters student, I think I'll need help with techniques writing my masters thesis! I've not even begun it yet, but hey. I could have really done some help with my batchelors thesis - ah, I was so naive back then! I had some terrible times doing my fieldwork in Southern Italy, so I think (in retrospect) I developed PSTD and well, try writing a thesis about something that gave you PTSD and its pretty hard! Oh well. I managed to scrape by somehow.
Oh well. I have to do fieldwork this summer and I'm trying not to let my past PTSD over past fieldwork influence me now......
Anyway
Miss Meri
