Done, but Should I Bother Next Semester?

Posted by Poet on December 19, 2006, at 14:47:10

I was taking classes to get a better job. As some of you know I got fired from a job in the field I was trying to get into after only a month. I'm thinking I might as well go back to trying for jobs not in the field and give up on this career change. Keep in mind my track record for getting any job is dismal, it's not like I'll get snapped up if I try to do anything else I have experience and/or education in.

I have three classes to finish the certificate I was going for. I signed up for two classes, one of which I really don't want to take and am cancelling. I feel like cancelling the one I do want to take because what's the point?

I know you can't reall help me, I just needed to let out some of my frustration and negativity.

Thanks for reading.

Can you take longer than you'd planned to get the certificate?

I always tend to think certificates and degrees certainly can't hurt, if there's a way to finish what you need to do to get them. I wonder if you could still reconsider switching fields, even if you finish the certificate? It would make you more versatile no matter what, down the line? Wouldn't necessarily lock you into anything.

I dont' know if this will help...I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated...

Hi Philyra,

I am definitely frustrated. My original goal was to finish by the end of summer and so if I can motivate myself to take two classes in spring and one in summer I'll be done. Then again, I'm unemployed and (yes, I know this is negative) by the time I get a full time job again I could have finished all three classes in the spring semester by going to day and night classes.

I'm glad that I register on line because so far I've signed up and cancelled twice. I signed up again for three classes today, and have until January 17 to drop or change them.

Sigh, why wasn't I happy with the B.A. and the certificate I all ready have. Oh, yeah, I didn't get a job. Don't ever base all your self esteem on career, I am the poster child for that issue.

Thanks for helping.
