Anyone else on the verge of graduating and in their job search mode? I've decided I hate it! haha! Too many resumes and cover letters to make specific to the job being applied for. It takes too much time only to get very little money. This whole staying in school for the rest of my life and never having to pay back student loans is becoming more and more appealing. :-P
Why or why couldn't I just come from a rich family and have a trust fund to live off of????? Darn reality!

Hmm.. Is grad study an option????
How does your student loan scheme go...
Does another degree sound appealling???
Law? Medicine? Biology? Music?

> Law? Medicine? Biology? Music?I'm actually finishing up my Masters right now. An MBA, JD, and PhD are all looking very appealing at the moment. I went to a talk a few weeks ago about if women and children in the US had too much mercury in their blood, and the speaker had an MD, PhD, and JD. I was like, "oooohhhhh....what a great idea!". Of course all that makes you over qualified for most jobs. hahaha! He just happened to work at NIH (National Institute of Health).
And the student loan scheme here is that as long as you are a student you can have your loans deferred. Or you can have your loans deferred for 6 months at a time if you are unemployed. So, my options for not paying my loans back are go to school forever or never get a job. School is more appealing to me. :-P

Ya, me too :-)
Want to swap???>An MBA, JD, and PhD are all looking very appealing at the moment.
JD??

Absolutely!

Yeah. Thats the idea. To be overqualified for most jobs. Get yourself a job you really like or not at all IMO.
> And the student loan scheme here is that as long as you are a student you can have your loans deferred. Or you can have your loans deferred for 6 months at a time if you are unemployed.Terrific!

Yeah. Me too. I think that if you get to be fairly overqualified then you will be able to make minimum repayments on your loan (for the rest of your working life) and still have more money in the hand than a fair few people out there. Enough to live comfortably, to be sure. Thats basically my plan. If a job comes along that sounds interesting and is something that I think I could be good at (most likely some form of research) then even though the money won't be as good as if I'd have done something private practiceable I'll still see more money in the hand than I ever would have seen without all those years at uni.
I don't know about your field...
I'm in social sciences and you really shouldn't have to pay tuition or living costs while doing a PhD. Really. There are scholarships out there to handle that. I'd suggest applying to heaps of places and then you will have a few options to make a decision from.

Thats why I'm thinking of doing my PhD and then going back to undergrad level. Going back to being an undergrad will be a humbling experience. Won't be able to pick up tutoring work or scholarships. But I think it would be good for me.
I'm thinking Bio or medicine next. Probably one year of a science degree - then I'll apply for medicine.
But thats after a PhD.
I'm starting to get interested in law too...
Are you allowed to try your own case, do you know????

Well, I got an interview...without even having to apply!!!! hahaha! If only that would happen more often. ;-)
I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope the interview goes well. I was told by the person that it will take 3-4 hours. Yup...hours! I've never been in an interview for more than 45 minutes. Ugh! It would be nice to get the job though because it is a very reputable consulting firm that having on my resume will help open doors in the future. And the best part is that if I got it, I would be earning $15-20k more a year than any of the other jobs I'm looking at. I'm in shock! :-D (Not that money is everything)
Pressure...pressure...pressure. I'll probably pass out and be in a state of dilerium for awhile if I get the job, so I may go AWOL. hahaha! :-P

Thats really great!
That is a long interview. Do you think they'll give you a smoke break?? What if you need to go to the bathroom?? That is strange. Maybe they want to show people who make it to interview stage around the place as well.
Money isn't everything... But it opens up more opportunities. I hope the interview goes well. I hope you get it.
:-)

>Well it's confirmed for 8am on Monday. They said at least 3 hours. ugh! And it really is 3 hours of interviewing. I will just be interviewing with a bunch of different people. It's almost going to be like 4-5 seperate interviews. I guess each person/group will be interviewing me to assess different aspects of the job. I'll bet all interviews for the rest of my life will seem easy compared to this one. hahaha! :-)

Yeah, I dare say they will :-)
And that is a great way to think of it. It is good to have practice with interviews. I've got my fingers crossed for you - I really hope it goes well. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

I think it went fine. It ended up being 3 hours long. I interviewed with 5 seperate people, one after the other. They prefer to do it this way so that they don't have to call someone back for 2 or 3 interviews. Instead, you just interview with every person at each level up to a partner. Extremely exhausting. And it's not fun having to answer the same questions five different times. I won't find out for at least another week how it went.

iI bet it was exhausting! Glad it seemed to go quite well (but I appreciate it can be hard to say sometimes).
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
