I just can't believe how hard school is. You need to have a cognitive flexability that I just don't have.
Even though the school is supposed to be accecable to people with mental illnesses, the
teachers are all in that - If I had to suffer, you have to suffer attitude.Universities still don't realize that making your students happy is the best way to help them learn.

How do you mean 'cognitive flexability'? If your mental health issues are interfearing with your learning then have you thought about checking out the disabilities office (or equivalent)? We have a pretty good one and they are terrific with respect to helping out wherever possible. What you tell them is confidential and they only liase with your teachers with your approval and they are there for YOU. They can be very good advocates to make sure that your teachers show a little sympathy and understanding - which is what you deserve. You have made it thus far...

Hey. College can be fun. It is hard work, but it can be fun too. Just see how you go, you might be able to talk your Father around after a couple years of politics or something :-) You should go where you want to go. Might take you a while to figure out where that is... but it is your life. Your Father will have to get used to that at some point.Besides which does he make you feel accepted when you do what he wants you to do? Or does he make you feel like a failure no matter what?
FTW. Do it for you :-)

Yeah, I dropped out for a while as an undergrad. Had three years off (with sporadic enrollments here and there). It can be hard to get back into it.. But I was bored shitless without it :-)

I can totally relate. It is so hard and draining. i am a regular drop out and will probably be in school forever. i put a time frame on my self (stupid me) and i am now freaking out, i don't htink i can do it, but i have to. and the school if you locate the disability section can be very helpful. I avoided it at first and flunked my first year since then i have a better handle on it. the profs though, i can't say the same for. but it is a tough place for anyone. does your school have a disability serice you can use?
