I feel bad about what I said. I mean to say, I have been thinking on it.
She is admirable in so many ways. I don't mean to deny or undervalue that. I don't know anything about her as a person. I know she's had a hard time of it with respect to coaching... I mean to say, I don't know that she's had quality coaching, particularly really early on. And none of that is her fault, of course.
New Zealand gives titles (Dame and Sir and Knighthood and so on) to sporting people.
INSTEAD of giving them tutors and coaches etc so they may come out with physiology, personal training, athletic coaching, management etc etc kinds of qualifications... So that they may have fair wages for fair work that they do in the name of and for the sport.
They just won't do it. They just won't pay the workers.
That's the thing about College Sports in the US.
I guess there are 2 aspects to that.
One aspect is that you take College Athletes and in exchange for playing for the School... The revenue the School gets from people turning out to watch your performance... Etc... The kids come out with College Degrees. So they can become qualified physiotherapists or whatever. Be employed in College athletics training programmes for the next generation of athletes or whatever.
So if the Pros don't work out (or after the Pros) you might have a career.
We just won't pay our workers in New Zealand.
And there's the forced compliance thing. And people love to control. So there is no shorage of people wanting to tell other people (particularly athletes) what to do (in ways that ruin them).

Once an athlete is performing to... I don't know.. National Level? I don't know.
At some point you go 'not going to f*ck with the technique too much because whatever it is that they are doing ITS WORKING'.
I do understand that.
So you end up with a fitness trap.
We have it in the power versions of the Olympic Lifts. When athletes can powerclean and powersnatch more weight than they can do with the technique for the full lifts (because they don't have the technique yet or then). So the coaches... Encourage them to power the lifts. In the training build up for the competition. Because teh competition is the short-sighted competition and they want the maximum weight to be lifted. So they end up doing the power versions only.
And we know it's a fitness trap -- because they are massively outclassed in the international competitions.

Hmm. Apparently both 'glide' and 'spin' techniques are used by elite male athletes and the sport is as old as hammer etc, so...

My point still stands about us not looking after our athletes.
Still, why would we? I mean a nation that abuses it's kids so, isn't likely to treat the athlete kids any better.

It is interesting to see... The dynamics between the coaches and the athletes. At the Olympics. Of course there is a bit of theatre... But there are also aspects of genuine.
You can see that some athletes really don't seem to like their coaches. Sometimes they have a support person with them who obviously is part of the coaching team who plays the role of support who coddles them etc... While the relationship between the athlete and the head coach is somewhat antagonistic...
Hard to know what is going on with that... It can help to feel a bit annoyed, motivationally. Sometimes.
But it is interesting the tender relationships you see, too.
And it is really interesting to see how China is developing in how the athletes are treated. At least, if the relationship between the coaches and the athletes is any indicator.

The cruel training practices. Overstretching them and so on.
The ideology that cruelty was necessary or important or needed for elite performance.
A few youtube film clilps have been surfacing about Mark Todd (eventing) hitting a horse from behind until it decided it would rather go into the water jump than stay there and be hit until it went into the water jump.
Etc.

I would imagine someone from parliament thought it would be a good idea to pay an actor (or similar) to make a tinfoil hat and go about inside the protest making people tinfoil hats.
Then there could be media coverage of people with tinfoil hats at the parliament protest (to stop the mandates and uphold informed consent). So then the reputable people wouldn't associate with or want to be associated with the protest, you see.
It's cunning. No? About as cunning as turning the sprinklers on them. Like how you turn the hose on cats making a noise. Or dogs fighting.
Anyway...
They were also going on (to discredit and prevent previously reputable doctors, teachers, nurses, small business people etc from wanting to be associated) about the poor sanitation conditions.
So...
The protestors (and / or their funders) brought in portable toilets.
The police wouldn't let trucks or whatever in to service them.
So they could go on about unsanitary conditions.
So they brought in toilets and hooked them up to the main water supply.
They accused them of hooking them up to the storm water and said people shouldn't swim in the harbor because of the protestors and how they had polluted the water for all of harbor swimming for Wellington-Wells.
They pointed out that they hooked them up to the sewerage water.
So they cried 'unlawfully!'Then they brought in showers and hooked them up to the stormwater. Solar heating.
So the police killed the street lamps and (under cover of darkness) removed the shower truck.
So the police found that someone slashed their tyres.

Politicians are working from home.
Court of Appeal is not working. At all.
Law School is... Well, hard to say. The first years are mostly sent home from Covid in the halls (after they collected up the revenue for staying in the halls non doubt. Locked into those residential contracts, I bet).
The 4th year students etc cant' get to the campus by the WEllington-Wells courts because of the protest.
Nobody home. No law system.
They don't / won't pay the lawyers, you see. Not to try good cases. For good people. For good causes.

You could enrol in a PhD and spend 10+ years slaving for the courts... You could take Ashley Bloomfield to court for Judicial Review. You could get the outcome that he did wrong technically (but no material consequence). Then I suppose you pay the costs and you pay the fees of the fancy lawyers that Ashley hired to protect himself from his crimes... And then they call you PhD Lawyer-guy. That's what it means to have a PhD in law from a NZ Univesrity. No?

There hasn't been an update on the Eye surgeon whose wife died. He gave media interviews etc and he could have poisoned her or something... Perhaps... Apparently some high class prostitute from Sydney was saying she was a bit afraid of him because he started saying he was going to get a lot of money once his wife died so he could live with the prostitute forever.... And about the swinger parties in Sydney etc...
There wasn't an open casket viewing of the junior doctor carefully handpicked by Otago who was partying (ketamine and prescription medications) with various teenagers in Dunedin. Who decided it would be a good idea to murder one of htem becaseu she threatened to tell everyone that he raped her. He disappeared from inside jail, apparently. I suppose that means he up and left. Just walked out. Don't know why they didn't keep him as a doctor slave on the inside. I guess he was rapey enough for htem on the outside? They thought he could do more harm in the world, out there?
We don't seem willing or able to progress any of these cases in a timely fashion...
Which means we are marketing / displaying to the world that NZ is a place that is very attractive for murderers and rapists etc. We did not extradite kim.com. Come here all the criminals of the world! We embrace you!!

Brian Tamaki (leader of some political party that has 'rights' in the title) was imprisoned (detained in police custody and then detained in Mt Eden Prison) for protesting vaccine mandates and campaigning for rights.
He has been instructed / ordered by the courts repeatedly (even after he paid a QC for legal advise and representation) that he is not to attend protests or be involved in organising them or it's back to Mt Eden for him.
So no amount of money going into the courts (to his QC lawyer) will motivate and inspire the courts of NZ to uphold the rights of the people.
They detained him for political reasons on policital grounds.
The judge was... Aghast. That he wasn't more compliant with the Judges directive to.. Lie flat, I guess.
The Judges will not uphold the rights of the people.
