I hear they're pretty good. In fact, I know some high school teachers use them in foreign language classes.
Whether or not they're worth the money probably depends on the energy and time you put into the studies. I find I often spend money on perfectly good items that I don't use as I should.
If you're committed and have a good history of follow through, they may well be worth it.

I am in the middle of level 4 Spanish. It's good but it is time consuming as you would expect.
I am afraid to say I did not pay for it.

The nice thing about learning a language is that it takes such a long time, relieving you of all sorts of alternative horrible experiences.
It's like a refuge.
I wonder what other languages they have besides Spanish?
Most people in most parts of the world speak several languages. I met a young man in Dakar who spoke 7, 3 African and 4 European. He was just a man on the street. Australia is hopeless for languages, although it is getting better. At least in Canada you have people who prefer not to speak English. I have always wondered how they do it. VincentQC is one.

Hi folks...
How long am I looking at taking for this course? General estimates..
I am looking to take the French course..but it is 399 smackers at BestBuy. I have seen they also have an 'online' program which is cheaper and you can pay in installments. What should I do??..lol.
If am succesful..I can get some very..very good paying jobs here in Canada. But I also love French and French-Canadian culture..as I am part French-Canadian. French-Canadians are much like Europeans...they take time with family and friends as more important than work-life. (My Mom spoke only French until she was 8 years old...she was born in Montreal.) Also...most of my relatives in Quebec are quite old so I can't really learn off them..and many others I have lost contact with. I know a bit of 'pigeon French'..just a basic understanding of very simple words. I am not good in writting French.

Wow that is expensive Vincent is extremely fluent in English. I will have to ask him which I probably already did how he became so fluent. But Jay I think I'd look into an online course. The thought of learning another language is mind boggling to me now. Phillipa

Well he is, but an interesting thing with Vincent is that he is following some French grammatical practices in English.
Learning another language certainly helps you understand your own better.
Rosetta Stone helps you learn by getting the feel of what is right.
Just as with rules in English....you know what feels right even though you can't produce grammatical rules.
I don't know if I will be able to use tenses and therefore write simple stories by the end of Level five.
Even to translate something like Little Red Riding Hood involves a lot of different verb endings, it's not done the same way always, and it takes time to learn it.You can get through a level of Rosetta Stone in a month if you do a few hours a day.

I don't know how they compare, but you might want to check and see if there are any earlier used editions for sale on eBay.

I used one of them briefly, but there are so many language learning resources online that are great and much much cheaper. You'd be better off using those and studying on your own with a tutor-- over time I"ve found amazing resources-- great dictionaries, books, quiz and flashcard websites, as well as substantive informational websites that help you memorize and retain information. I would imagine in French there would be even more than in the language I"m learning. I've found also lots of videos on youtube and even better ones not on youtube--not to mention lots of audio in various places-- You can often download supplementary material on website called scribd. And there are movies on Netflix etc. The more you look for these things, the more and better you find.
My problem with Rosetta Stone is that they don't teach vocabulary per se, although you can pick up some from the video-- or grammar. And there's really nothing "immersive" about it-- the only time you use the language is when you're listening to the tapes-- not in interaction with other people in unpredictable situations. It's just overpriced imo.
There are other language learning programs like well, Rocket[fill in language], and [language]pod.101-- and these aren't even necessarily the best-- just two of the better known. I would look into competitors and see what they offer, before I spend that much money on a quite limited program-- that spends more in advertising than others mostly.
