I am experiencing

Posted by Beckett on January 8, 2012, at 4:03:33

I think a kind of a remission. It's very good, really, though there are waves of memory. I want to stay awake all day and night to make up for what has been lost for decades.

This may sound manic or hypomanic, however, I rest and my actions are measured. It's grief driven and joy driven if anything, and curiosity. It's all so odd being a human being.

And then, some day, it will end.

We went ice skating tonight at a small open air rink, the young and elder gliding and giddy under strings of lights and an almost full moon ringed with ice crystal, each other taking turns falling or extending a hand. (I observed rinkside with a cup of instant hot cocoa from the concessions stand not wanting to end the night in the ER.) Two sisters wore stretchy pink tulle wings outside their sweaters that glowed with tiny blinking lights. So little seemed to have us content for a few hours.

I can relate.

It is perfectly natural to want to play with a new toy / old toy.

Have fun!

I'd like to join this club. But I get tired. Don't want days to end as never will come back again. Phillipa

You have heard this of course?

I guess you can't access youtube?

When he sings 'Everyone will leave at EXACTLY the same time' I was quite overcome.

Which reminds me of TS Eliot replying to a question about why he played patience.....'Because it's the closest thing to being dead'.

So someone said they are (attractively) weird.

I've always been very impressed by him.

Lines like
'No dust, no rocks,
the whole thing is over,
All those beauties in solid motion,
all those beauties are going to swallow you up',
or something like that, from 'Swamp'.

Silly. Orpheus looks. Oh well. At her.

I like the music :-). It would still distract me from more important errands.

I kind of love this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJu-IABeCws

What's it about?

Do you remember anyone here?
No you don't remember anything at all
I'm sleeping, I'm flat on my back
Never woke up, had no regrets

There's a party in my mind...And it never stops
There's a party up there all the time...They'll
party till they drop
Other people can go home...Other peoplle they can split
I'll be here all the time...I can never quit

Take a walk through the land of shadows
Take a walk through the peaceful meadows
Try not to look so disappointed
It isn't what you hoped for, is it?
There's a party in my mind...And I hope it never stops
I'm stuck here in this seat...I might not stand up

Other people can go home...Everyone else will split
I'll be here all the time...I can never quit

Everything is very quiet
Everyone has gone to sleep
I'm wide awake on memories
There memories can't wait.

He was hanging out with Eno. Those two got into a lot of mischief I suspect.

I think Kings Lead Hat may have been about that.....

Dark alley (dark alley) black star
Four turkeys in a big black car
The road is shiny (bright shine) the wheels slide
Four turkeys going for a dangerous ride
The lacquer crackles (black tar) the engines roar
A ship was turning broadside to the shore
Splish splash, I was raking in the cash
The biology of purpose keeps my nose above the surface (Ooh)

David Byrne is so funny.

I used to dance around to this song, but never stopped to listen. I imagine it could very well be about that.

I've downloaded The Talking Heads onto my player and have been reactivating some archival regions of my brain. Interesting. I knew I would marry my husband when he gave me a tape (there, that dates me) of Before and After Science, my first Eno. Sigh.

I remember the excitement of the first two Eno albums very clearly. We had not heard anything like them. I loved the squidgy squeezy sounds. Since you like Before and After Science, here is a favourite from that album with some very lovely sounds before then end, and wonderful lyrics which I shall reproduce for my amusement. There is some good advice there.

Backwater!
We're sailing at the edges of time
Backwater!
We're drifting at the water-line
Oh, we're floating in the coastal waters
You and me and the porter's daughters
Ooh, what to do? Not a sausage to do.
And the shorter of the porter's daughters
Dips her hand in the deadly waters
Ooh, what to do in a tiny canoe?
Black water!
There were six of us but now we are five
We're all talking
To keep the conversation alive
There was a senator from Ecuador
Who talked about a meteor
That crashed on a hill in the south of Peru
And was found by a conquistador
Who took it to the Emperor
And he passed it on to a Turkish Guru...
His daughter
Was slated for becoming divine
He taught her,
He taught her how to split and define
But if you study the logistics
And heuristics of the mystics
You will find that their minds rarely move in a line
So it's much more realistic
To abandon such ballistics
And resign to be trapped on a leaf in the vine.

That was such a fun night. It was my son's first time on ice skates, and he when he came off the ice, his legs hurt like shin splints I think they're called. His father piggy-backed him to the car. His cheeks were all rosy. Since then the remission has slid back some, and I have become more socially avoidant again but not completely. I would still be up for another small adventure.

I heard this talking heads cover today. I like the singer's rough voice:
