I have not seen this show.I looked it up,it does look interesting.We watched a movie,Away From Her.We have been watching movies all week.This particular one gave me pause,the wife gets alzheimers,and her husband must deal w/all that entails.Very somber.I need to watch some more Mike&Molly,makes me happy,makes me laugh.

I can't personally handle sad shows as they effect how I feel. Saw a movie Marley and Me at home about a dog it was great til the end and dog died, I cried, and it's stayed with me since. Phillipa

then dont watch "Hatchi". Great film about a dog,however,I cried and cried.But I somehow feel better after a good cry.When I was depressed,I could not watch any shows that were sad or about crime,violence,etc.For a while,I didnt watch any tv or listen to music.But the first tv I started to watch was on hgtv,about houses and renovations.

when I got well,i had my kitchen and dining room painted a rustic orange...because it made me happy.I then had my family room,foyer,and other rooms painted colors.Mom calls my house "the crayola house" and now I cannot get enough of color!I bought berry colored sofa and chair.i would never have done that before.I was always a white and off white and off off white gal!

I always liked pastel shades in the house, but I discovered my son likes bolder colors and he seems to choose ones that work. My husband likes them too, now that he's used to the idea. So instead of a pale amethyst in my amethyst and sage green bedroom, we have a bold amethyst. And my husband is fine with it!
Go figure.
Next is taking down the detested dead duck wallpaper and redoing the kitchen in "New Orleans". Not purple, gold, and green, of course. But an overall New Orleans theme.
I haven't done any stained glass recently, but I've been trying to decide on a design for glass splashboards in this New Orleans kitchen. My husband doesn't care for the idea of Mardi Gras masks.

I love anything unique,that expresses the person living in the house.I dont care if things are matchy. I LOVE stained glass.Bold amethyst and sage green sound serene.I would like one wall of my bedroom amethyst.It is all a sea green,and I have some of the walls lighter,fading into a deeper shade of same color.Why not have your house be everything you love?

That's why I particularly loathe the dead duck kitchen. Even though it was beautifully coordinated and really quite attractive, I don't hunt and don't care to see decoys and ducks about to have their heads blown off.
There's a wonderful series of ceramic New Orleans landmarks, including ones that "ain't dere no more". I started collecting them after Katrina, when I was feeling particularly affectionate towards my city. But I'm not going to hang them on dead ducks. I'm just not.
Sea green sounds very restful. How did you achieve the variation in color? I think the reason my husband likes the amethyst walls is that the sage green is such a wonderfully cool and neutral shade with a silverish cast.
They redid the main bathroom in a rich terra cotta. It's taken some getting used to, and fortunately the lights needed to be replaced anyway. The old fluorescent just would not have done. My husband has a nasty habit of not finishing projects, though. So bits of the naked wall where the wallpaper was removed still show in conspicuous places. I have that habit too, so I can't really complain.
I was thinking of that old standby, butter yellow and deep blue, in the kitchen. My husband favors a floral theme to the stained glass. Which is fine, I suppose. I think something like the design of "Four O'Clocks" redone for mosaic and in different colors would be good behind the stove. :)

I like the four oclocks and the orchids,as well as the colorful dianne milsap.I love to go to someone's house that has a collection of things that are displayed.But its the most interesting when they mean something to that person in particular.The walls in our bedroom ended up w/the fade due to a mistake. We knocked out a wall and enlarged our room.I purchased what I thought was the same color paint to cover the new walls,however,it was lighter,so...just went with it.We do alot of stuff to our house,hubby is a general contractor.But the projects do get put on hold,and I do get frustrated,and try to do what I can on my own.But I like when mistakes turn into happiness!

speaking of doing things yourself, I am banned forever,from plumbing work around the house.It was an upstairs bath,I believed I could handle it,well water ended up downstairs thru the ceiling.It went downhill from there...

There is sooooo much I'd like to do with this house. We haven't really done much since we bought it over twenty years ago. And while it looked nice then, it is definitely in need of work now.
My husband's priorities involve maintenance. I'm the one interested in improvements. I daresay if I ever did a better job on the maintenance, he might be more open to changes.

I am always afraid to do anything involving electrical and plumbing. I still don't like doing sheetrock, as I generally make a mess of things.
You will laugh, but I was an adult before my husband pointed out to me that you can unscrew the light switch plates instead of painting around them. I was vaguely horrified. Up till that point, I had somehow thought of the house as a discrete entity that protected what was inside from what was outside. The idea that rank amateurs could dismantle it filled me with dismay.

Gadchik how wonderful is that as you have access to professional painters. I used to do my own painting now can't do to back. But so far the Duvet, Euro shams 3 total, sheets, some new pics are purchased. And Husband is in process of painting. Our biggest problem is the trey ceiling and decidint whether to continue paint color a kind of gold/brown onto the first level of ceiling and then comes white crown molding which frames the trey. Well as of now we are continuing up with the wall color. Inside trey will be white to match crown molding and all other trim. The wall behind bed will be a blue that is in the pattern of the Duvet and Shams. It can be seen online the duvet at pottery barn site. Print is the "Grace". Phillipa

Dinah did you really google pottery barn and see the Grace pattern? It is very pretty and also the name is my Mothers and Granddaughter's who moved to Florida. Behind bed will be the blue in the print. Three walls done with the gold/brown unfortuntely Greg ran out of time and two swipes of roller would complete the gold/brown on the beginning of trey ceiling. Thanks for liking it!!!!Jan/Phillipa
