Not much.
Kim Jong Il died, which made me think I may have missed the last chance to see Stalinism in action, albeit with family cult deviations.
(I need the advice of a 1930s Marxist theoretician to get the language right.)The outpourings of grief caused me to reflect on the diversity of opinion and practice in this world.
I would like to say I'm on the mend, but that may be too optimistic.
Christmas is coming. At least its not hot. I feel so uninspired.

There's a theme for a holiday. Buy a round the world ticket and go to each and every embalmed dictator.
This is only five
http://www.everseradio.com/top-five-people-embalmed-for-display-not-all-totalitarian-dictators-but-mostly/Typical western self preoccupation (though I had not heard about Marcos).
I'm sure there are some in Africa and Central Asia, not all of which are mentioned here....

I have seen Ho Chi Minh. The guards told me to get my hands out of my pockets, which a rather bracing. It was like Holy Communion, but has become less reverent over the years.

I guess eygyptian mummies do not count. Statute of limitations. Or pharaohs were not dictators. Just acted like ones but dressed too nicely.
Then there are the Incas. Same issues? Or are those the extended, ancient civilization tours?
Peat bog tours for those in the U.K. that prefer a more domestic trip.
Can these tours be arranged by mobile phone? If not, I'm not sure I'll have time to book one ;-)

Those Russian embalmers were hard at work during our lifetime.
The regrettable western centrism of the google search engine denies us the pleasure of knowing which African countries to visit. You know where there is that replica of St Peters in the jungle? Somewhere around there.

You might remember that song called 'Shoes', which goes in part....
I went to the mall
I went to the mall
I went to the mall
And the mall sucked.

It's Thursday.
My phone will stream movies.
This feels to me like a variation on my grandmother's warnings about font size and lighting and Abraham Lincoln.
I don't want to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" on a 2.5" x 4" something screen.

Do you know that in the early 50s or before, the clergy in (I think) Lyon hung an effigy of Father Christmas from the spire of the cathedral?
This is rather nice.

Do you know that for a long time I had trouble sleeping without my VHS copy of that movie playing. I've seen and heard it probably close to a hundred times, maybe more? Its a long movie, i didnt watch the whole thing, just slept with it.
It was soothing to me somehow.

It's the following Thursday.
There are a slew of these animations I found in the sidebar.
They remind me of Tarantino, which I like, without the bloodshed, which I like, which tells you how out of it I am regarding cinema because i should probably have someone more contemporary in mind (I imagine).
Thanks :-)

We watched "A Scanner Darkly" last night, although I was asleep before the end.
I love the bike scene. When whoever it is says 'We are WAY to close to this. Let's go out and ask the first person we see for an objective viewpoint' or words to that effect, I am reminded of long past events.
