No parties this year. I'm not working - no work parties. Spouse works remotely, his employer is far away so no party there.
I was invited to a charity soiree but frankly wasn't up to the glitzy chatty smiling small town glam it called for - I wrote a check instead.Not exactly bah humbug. More like, find me my rock to hide under!

I was invited to a holiday party for today, but I didn't feel like going. There are a lot of people I don't know at the party and I don't feel like socializing with strangers now. I get uncomfortable easily around people and it takes a lot out of me. It's my social anxiety.

A couple of work related ones. I don't think of parties as fun most of the time. Usually I find them tiring and overstimulating. All that forced banter. I like to be with just one to a few people I know well so I can feel less tense.

There is a special and terrible style of communication at parties. It has never been clear to me why I find it so painful. I'd much rather go to church. I wouldn't rather go to prison, but you get the idea. I think it is the fact that people are so determinedly upbeat and superficial. I find it physically and mentally painful. I left the country to avoid this sort of thing and won't be back until it is all over.
I don't mind drunken parties where people talk about politics and Marxism and serious retro subjects like that.
One of the better things about getting old is that I will be able to talk about dying at parties. That will liven it up for me, if not for them.

I am attending 3. They will be small and more intimate and comfortable than big parties where I don't know anyone.

I want a really good paying, really low stress job that I excel in and that I truly love to do.

We're not always given any useful instructions on how to live. I mean, useful to a specific person with specific advice, and the culture is really unhelpful sometimes in permitting people to find out what it is they need to do and the shape they need to adopt in order to feel better, and people ca be baffled by it all.
My wish for myself would be to have enough money to live comfortably enough (really quite simply) in some third world non-English speaking country for the rest of my life. The sort of country where I could euthanase myself before the horrible end. So that kind of rules out Bolivia which sounds pretty good otherwise. Pakistan is no fun. Central Asia is a wreck. The Syrians are supposed to be very friendly, and wasn't it part of the Axis of Evil? But no. That probably leaves India, up north.

I love doing that because it makes me realise how insignificant I am in the grand scheme of the universe and beyond. I guess you could say that it gives me perspective.

People always have. During terrible times (Battle of Stalingrad?) people would look up and think that these were the same stars seen forever, and that from there, the events here must seem very far away.

I'm almost never anywhere dark enough to see enough stars anymore. Last night however I was. The sky seemed to sparkle with them. And I did recognize a few constellations I learned as a kid. There was some satisfaction in finding I remembered after all this time.
We need to turn off more outdoor lights.

There is supposed to be this difference between the southern sky and the northern sky?
I don't understand it
I grew up in the country where there was no artificial light to speak of, and the sky at night had a whole blaze of stars down the middle of it from one end to the other.
I still live almost in the country but I never see that now where I live.
