Hair miracle

Posted by Deneb on September 21, 2009, at 22:29:01

Two words: Coconut oil :-D <big grin>

Anyone else use it?

My hair is so soft and shiny now!

But mostly I notice the new found softness!

I love my hair. I am so vain lol.

I never really gave it much thought, but I have a newfound appreciation for my own hair. It is almost bra strap length, thick, full of volume and pitch dark in a dimmer room, but shiny with warm undertones in the sun. It is straight with a slight hint of a wave, especially on the ends. Hair diameter is large and I haven't found a single split end.

I don't really like or dislike my physical appearance most days. I don't pay much attention to it, but lately I am obsessed with my hair. LOL

Right now I put a lot of coconut oil in my hair and I am sleeping with a towel over my pillow and letting the oil penetrate my hair overnight.

I will wash it out tomorrow.

I plan on growing my hair as long as it can go and still look healthy.

I just washed my hair and it is actually looking kind of fizzy. I don't know what change in my routine caused this.

My hair is looking a lot more wavy too. Here is a pic.

Deneb, where did you get your coconut oil? I tried to buy some at a beauty supply and accidentally bought some stuff that's actually more like Vaseline with some coconut oil. Yuck! I don't want that on my hair.

Oh well maybe it will be good eye makeup remover :)

Hi Deneb - is the coconut oil in liquid form? (silly question I know, but I think it comes in solid also.)

Your hair is gorgeous & I'd almos *ill to have hair like that!! LOL

hugs, Kath

Mine is super curly - tight small ringlets. I call it a permanent permanent.

You lucky thing you.

My hair is so thin and baby fine that I need to wear child's barrettes. On those few occasions I manage to get it to be completely straight and not bend, and if I've just had it colored, it looks at best rather charmingly girlish.

I used to wear it long in my teens and early adult years, but I never was without split ends, and it never was terribly healthy.

Oh no, vaseline on hair does not sound good. LOL

I bought my coconut oil at Nutrition House, a supplements stores. You may want to try your local GNC, organic foods stores, supplements stores etc. I hear you can also find coconut oil in some ethnic foods stores.

Coconut oil is usually in solid form. I found mine refrigerated. It's melting point is close to room temperature though so I think that is why it is called an oil.

I love curls. They look harder to take care of though.

I'd advise not straightening your hair. I think natural curls or waves look great. :)

Colouring is damaging to hair too. I learned so much about hair. Perms are the worse.

I love the feel of fine hair. It's so soft.

Oh, I don't mean that my hair has waves or curls. It just tends to bend, and I do mean bend, in one or two places so that the overall straightness is broken. It might just be how it dries. :)

pop-can rollers

When I was a teenager the 'in' style was straight bangs & smooth hair with a flip at the bottom (I guess 'teasing' also played a part, although I never teased my hair).

My hair, being curly, posed a great challenge.

My Dad hammered holes in pop cans & I used them as rollers, bobby-pinned to each other. I had shoulder length hair so it took a long time to dry so I'd walk around looking like someone from a space ship! sigh.

The things I did to try to be like those who were 'in'.

I've never been a popular person and I've never really followed fashion trends. I'm kind of oblivious to that kind of thing.

I don't care if ultra long hair is not popular right now, I want it and I will grow it. LOL

I plan on wearing my hair in braids a lot too, even though I almost NEVER see anyone wear braids these days.

So I will be weird. LOL It's OK.

I think weird is great! And being different also. I think it's great to be the way we want to & not give a darn!

Years ago I knew a lady who was maybe in her 50's & had white hair, braided in long braids halfway down her back. She had them fastened with the clip kind of wooden clothespins!!!

Here's a good source for coconut oil:

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/bulkoil/a-c.html

It's pure and clean and smells so good, so coc-o-nutty. I get the unrefined, virgin - a whole gallon for less than $40 and it lasts a long time.

It's more solid than liquid. In the summer, it melts. But it melts in your hands too.

IMO, it's worth every penny. I cook with it and use it as a body moisturizer. One gallon lasts forever.

lol. pop cans = rollers...lol. And I don't think braids ever (or ever will) go out of style.
