med issues and no doc!

Posted by paxvox59 on December 13, 2008, at 19:13:27

Hey ya'll. I have posted on several other of the pages here about my medical issues. Right now, I'm trying to come OFF Remeron while getting BACK on Wellbutrin as my AD. My biggest problem is not having a Pdoc or an established relationship with a GP. The GP did give me the WB, but he seemed unfamiliar with the Remeron (and the WD issues associated with it). I'm a nervous wreck right now, and add to that the fact that I don't have a job, am living with family that doesn't understand mental illness issues, and even if I COULD have a doc tweak my meds, I can't afford to buy meds that would probably help me. I keep trying to tell myself that "it's going to be OK" but right now I am a mess! Should I call the GP back and try to get more Remeron so that I can WD much more slowly ( I only have enough for about another week)? Or would it be better to just try to struggle through? I am at 7.5mg of the Remeron now. I know I am being repetative about this issues, but I haven't anyone to talk to who "understands" my situation. Thanks!

I would call the doctor back and ask to taper off of the med slower...No need to add to the stress that you're already experiencing.

Pax, would you do me a favor and work really hard to find either an AA or NA meeting tomorrow? You really do need more support than you're getting and a group will help. You can look in your phone book today and call around. With luck, you might even find a meeting to go to today. Don't tell me that you've been there, done that! Sometimes we have to have more than one dose of something before it takes. :-)

I'm usually around if you need to babblemail me.

xoxo pat

Hiya, I'm pretty sure that PAX attends AA daily!! & was distressed that having a job might interfere with this.

I wonder if some AA person might be of assistance. Wonder if it would be appropriate to bring up these meds concerns in the sharing part of meeting? I've only ever been to CoDA (Codependents Anonymous) meetings, so am not sure about the sharing at AA meetings.

PAX - I agree with Fayeroe about the meds. I strongly suggest that you discuss it with the doctor. I don't know anything about the WD part, but think that you've got enough to be dealing with, without adding the WD part & I think you have Remeron to help you sleep, so if you didn't, I imagine you'd have problems sleeping & we NEED our sleep!!

Oh my! I go to AA EVERY day or I would REALLY be out of my mind! God knows that every addict or alcoholic has to be a little crazy, so I fit right in (LOL). Thanks for the follow-up. I am going back to the GP Monday (12/22) to see what can be done about these issues and I hope he gives me a break.

Thanks Kath. Yes, AA every day. I do discuss the meds with those in the group who let that sort of experience come out. Many AA "purists" poo-poo ANY meds that affect mood. Go figure.

It's been hard, no doubt. It hurts that my bro and sis-in-law don't understand mental illness, and just tell me "don't allow yourself to have those feelings" Jeessseee! I know enough that if things get TERRIBLE, to go to the ER (even though I know where THAT Will land me!). Every day is a winding road.

Thx for mentioning above about going to the doctor. Hope it ends up going well.

Your relatives' attitude makes me think of "Act As If" - which a friend of mine who is in AA & OA (overeaters anonymous) will sometimes say. I guess it can help, but I think it's important to acknowledge our feelings & HEY - they're real & I think a lot of people are very uncomfortable with some of their feelings & so deny them. I guess if they encounter someone who is in TOUCH with their own feelings of pain, that could feel a bit un-nerving!

Sending you good wishes. Kath

Hey, Ya'll. Sorry that I have been absent for so long. I HAD a job, and was working long hours. I had just about qualified for medical insurance when I had an accident and got hurt at work! I mean, it was like DAYS before I was qualified for it! I am still taking Remeron (gasp!) as my only medication. It sucks but what am I to do?

~ ~ ~ SO very good to hear from you. I was quite concerned about you & am glad you're back. That really sucks about being so close to getting med insurance. Is the "Worker's Compensation" or something like that where you live? I live in Canada & if a person is hurt while working, they get what's called Worker's Compensation.

I hope you're not seriously injured. How long before you/doctors think you'll be better? Will the job still be there for you??

Sorry about the meds thing. Can't remember if the pharmaceutical companies offer free or low-cost meds where you are. I think you had moved to Vermont or something. Still with your relatives?

(((you)))

Kath

PS - Is REmeron cheap. I think it was that that's what the doctor was okay with perscribing?

Yes, I do get some (basic) Worker's Comp. ($240 a week). I am doing physical therapy twice a week for four weeks (just started it Mon.). I doubt that I will be able to return to that job. The Remeron is cheap (about $14 a month). I am in the process of moving to another state, and I will need to find a doc who will work with me w/o insurance (good luck, right?). I tried county mental health in VA, and they said that they couldn't help me since I was (then) living with family. It is frustrating. Thanks for saying "hey" to me.
