I'm one of those people you see walking down the street talking to themselves, muttering curses and laughing innaproriately, and this I was doing, fulminating to myself about Iraq and the state of the world, when I realised, on leaving the bank, that I have no idea where my car is parked.
I'm going to have to take some Valium. That should help :)

So currently I'm holed up in an internet cafe listening to some Irish tourists (nice accent) and some decent alternative American country music.
I know where the car isn't.
I shall have to look.
But it's so sunny outside.
Then again if I find my car I can go and have lunch and read more about the state of the world.

I ALWAYS lose my car. I'm the one walking around the parking lot holding my remote (door locker) up in the air, punching it trying to get my car to honk. Weird things those remotes, they don't seem to operate through other cars, but in parking garages I can hear it honk on the floor below me. I hope you find your car soon. I feel for you.

Oh Sigi how far did you go that you lost your car was it in a huge parking lot? Do you have a key that when you press it you car honks or something. Maybe you need to call the police could it be stolen? Love PJ

I've been thinking about alzheimers.
On the way out of the internet cafe I asked the bloke at the desk
'Where's my car?'
He gave me a steady look.
'You don't know where your car is?'
'I know where it isn't. I don't know where it is.'

'I'll alert the authorities.'But eventually it came to me where it was. This is only a little place.

I wish they would just come up with a cure for that (alzheimer's) already. How long must we agonize over whether/when we're going to get it? Perhaps they can't extend life indefinitely, but couldn't they come up with a few convenient cures?
Thank goodness you found your car. I was imagining you wandering about with no idea where it could be. Maybe you could put some identifying mark on it, like a little banner; or leave little clues as you move away from it, to make the path. Don't they have homing devices of some sort so you could wander about til you heard the sound and then find your way toward it?
I've had lots of bad dreams about losing my car. It's really scary-- in my dream at least. How far were you from home? You had money, I take it-- since you were in a cafe. Let's hope it doesn't come to having to have a little piece of paper with your name and home address on it. Until that happens, you're doing fine.

I wondered if I took enough Valium whether I would be able to forget that I had lost my car and wait for another one to turn up.
The person wishing to provide me with a new car could find me in the library looking for "Europe's Inner Demons" by Norman Cohn, or anything by EM Cioran.
Now I can imagine alzheimers. Who's this young person come to see me? He looks like that son I had once but he's completely the wrong age. He must be an impostor.
I have a friend whose mother took him aside and said 'Who's that man? He's always around here. I don't feel comfortable with him. I want to go home.'
Well, it was a hot summer that year, and the house had to be shut to prevent her from wandering trying to go home. They had been married 60 years and were found dead together. He died first. The heat must have been terrible.

My problem is ADD, much less serious than Alzheimer's. When I park my car, I try to make a point of remembering where I park, but my wandering mind sometimes keeps me from remembering completely. I'm sure there are other much less serious reasons for not remembering as well. Don't beat yourself up Sigmund, there are much worse traits to have. We don't interact much, but from what I can tell, you're a genuinely good guy, which can be rare. Plus you live in Australia which is my favorite place.

I'm one of those people, too. I wander through parking lots, car keys in hand, talking to myself outloud and asking my car where I parked her (yes, she's a female car and has a name which is on her license plate.)
Cell phones are a wonderful invention as if I look like I'm talking to someone besides myself I look less crazy.

Well, that's right and it's one of the few things to be said for them.
I used to climb this mountain twice a week to try to relax and increase my endorphin levels. It took around 4 hours up and down. Sure enough, up the top, there would be some joker with a mobile phone saying 'I'm just at the top of Mt X'.
But when I was in Japan everyone turned their mobile phones to silent mode and texted on the trains.
I was very impressed.

I become agitated as soon as I have a mobile phone in my hand, so I'm unable to learn how to use them.
I amuse myself (if no one else) by claiming to be too cognitively impaired to use one.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the waves that they emit??
I've heard various safety suggestions - like if you're carrying one in a pocket, face the 'face' of it away from your body. Don't sleep with one near you etc. I know some people are super-sensitive to various waves & even get sick from them

Well, PJ, I might be kidding but it could be true.
What is really really true is that I get agitated around mobile phones.
This world of ours has much much much too much (meaningless) choice, and I'm not in favour of it.
In Hanoi there was a restaurant that offered only on meal, and it was really good. I loved the idea of having a restaurant with no choice.
