I'm happy again!
I'm excited about organic chem.
I was very productive today.
I learned most of the organic chem without my tutors since they weren't available this week.

I'm doing what works for me!
This is what I do....
I can't seem to study at home very much so I go to the library on campus. There have big ergonomical desks and chairs with computers. It's very comfortable.
I buy a large coffee.
I open up babblechat and I chat with myself regarding the progress of my studying. Babblechat really helps. Or chating with myself rather. LOL
So, I'll take breaks to chat once in a while, drink coffee, walk around, eat, etc. Having Babblechat up makes studying easier for me.
I talk myself through the procrastination.
I write about my progress on studying there.
I get a lot done!

:-)
It went really well. It was very straight-forward. I actually didn't get to study the last couple of pages last night or this morning.
I got too sleepy last night so I went to bed at 1:30am and I was too sleepy to get up early to study. So I actually didn't review those two pages at all.
I was almost late for my midterm! Oops. I kept pressing snooze LOL and somehow in my sleepy mind I thought my exam started at 9:30am instead of 9. Thankfully I came to my senses at 8:20am and got up and sped out the door.
I think the midterm exam went really well. When I left there were still a lot of people in the room, but like the prof said, it only took about 1 hour to write. I spent another 20 mins checking over my answers.
This prof gives us 3 hours for an exam that takes an 1.5 hours. He doesn't want us stressing over time. It's really nice.
:-)
I'm happy. And to think I was freaking out over missing a day or studying!

Hi Deneb:
I think we may be in some similar situations. I am not really having *problems* with my classes, just the *amount* of information is just massive. So I see you have found some good alternatives to studying. I work in a similar way. I first take all the big concepts, and try to use little rhymes, word-games, acronyms and I can just pull these up in my brain, like opening a drawer. The smaller things I group together, and again use little word games and such to create this visual "word" in my head that will trigger the answer. Other times...I just fake it and b.s. my way through it. Sometimes works, sometimes not. The most important thing though is you have to completely understand all of the theories, concepts, research, etc, before you can process the names in the brain. Geezz..I am tired from this already! Phew!
lol....take good care..

Deneb,
I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying organic chemistry! You must know that most people consider this course extemely difficult, although having a good prof can help. Org has derailed many a pre-med. I have an advanced degree in chemistry and, like you, liked organic (alhough I hated analytical, probably because I am not good at math). My advice to students taking organic is to never, ever fall behind. This is not a course you can cram for for an exam. But obviously you've already figured that out for yourself. Good for you! You should be very proud of yourself!
Best,
Lucie Lu

Many students find that writing notes on 3x5 flash cards is a good study aid... just a suggestion.Good luck,
Lucie
