Should I feel guilty? I never know

Posted by TexasChic on February 23, 2007, at 21:32:49

I told my 8yr old nephew he could spend the night last weekend but I had to cancel because I was sick. I told my sister to tell him he could come over this coming Sat. Right after that a friend asked me if I wanted to go to a museum exhibit with her on that Sat night. She already had tickets and no one to go with. So I called my sister and told her that instead of him spending the night I would come over during the day and take him to a movie and out to eat. At first she said she wasn't going to tell him he wasn't going to spend the night because he would be really disappointed. She said I could tell him myself. After feeling bad all day I finally called her back and she said she would tell him after all. Now tonight she calls saying, "Didn't you tell your friend you already had plans with Christopher?" I was like, "Well I didn't think a change in plans would be that big of a deal". And she says, "Well, he was REALLY disappointed". I asked her if she told him I was moving in two weeks and he could come stay at my brand new apt then (yeah I finally decided on one). She said "He doesn't care about that, its two weeks from now". So now I feel all bad. But don't I have the right to change my plans? Is that really so bad? I wish I could call and talk to him but their phone is turned off. I hate to think of him being sad.

T I think you handled it well you are seeing him. And he has an offer to come stay at your new place. So forget the guilt. Love Phillipa

I would feel guilty.

I don't know how fond you are of him, but could you not think of something to do with him to make him feel really special?

Well I dunno. I mean, I was looking forward to a friend coming over this week and staying the night, but she cancelled. So I was disappointed. I guess this is just stuff that happens in life. I mean, you couldn't win - if you'd let the boy stay the night, you would have felt guilty about your friend (well at least I would have). There is a certain element of breaking a promise, but I mean, this sort of stuff happpens all the time. And you are seeing him aren't you in the evening anyway.

seriously, not to downplay his disappointment, but he'll get over it. (and trust me, i'm talking all the time about my nieces in future therapy talking aobut how aunt kk didn't do this and she promised and that's why they're screwed up.).

seriously though, don't feel too bad about it. try to make it up to him by giving him a special afternoon. then, keep your word when you move and make that weekend all about him.

but, don't beat yourself up about it. no sense in both of you feeling bad. chances are, he's over it now anyway.

It ended up going fine. I told him I know I said he could spend the night, but my friend asked me to go to a museum exhibit that was that night only. I said to make it up I would take him to the movies and would get quarters for video games (he's always begging to do that but I never have quarters). I said is that okay? And he was just like "sure". We had a blast. We always laugh so much. We went and had pancakes for brunch, then to the movies then to McDonalds for ice cream and more games.

It was so weird we came out from the movies and the sky was this weird orange color and it was really really windy! I was like, I've NEVER seen the sky like this before! Christopher said it looks like we're going to have a tornado. I was like don't say that! It was exactly what I was thinking although it wasn't something I'd ever heard of. We sat in the car and listened to the radio and finally heard it was a dust storm because it was so windy. Christopher also pointed out the weird thing the grass was doing. It looked like each strand of grass was wiggling. It was the wind rippling through the grass but it was really weird looking.

I'm trying to figure out how to download pictures I took from my phone that day. I'll let yall know if I figure it out.

Yeah I've done the highlighting thing before and its really what I prefer. I always used to keep my hair a light golden blonde with multiple colors of highlights. But until things are a little more stable money wise, getting it done professionally is just one luxury I choose to sacrifice.

That and cable. I would love both of those things more than anything! But I have to be careful, especially with my new apt that's going to be $200+ what I'm now paying in rent. It scares the crap out of me sometimes, but I'm also very exited.

As a preacher's kid, and having parents that were both mentally ill and OCD (among other things), I was raised to be meek to the upmost degree - at the sacrifice of any self worth what so ever. So living somewhere nice and pretty is a new thing for me.

Anyway I'm getting very tired and going completely off subject so I better get to bed. I hope some more people look at my pics and let me now if I look anything like they imagined. I always find that fun.

You look lovely!!! And not what I was expecting, although I'm not entirely sure what I *was* expecting but still. You don't look your age! You look about 24. I don't know what your real age is through, but I guessed around 35 (and I'm hoping you're not really 18 or something). Anyway, you look really cool!!!

Thanks girl! I feel like my hair is in this weird in-between stage right now, so thanks for the compliment! I'm thinking of dyeing it a bright red just for somethng different. The thing about red is it fades big time, so you aren't stuck with it forever. Last time I did it faded to a nice strawberry blonde. But what I really want is a new hairstyle. Something modern. But I'm pretty lazy when it comes to the styling part. I usually just walk out with it wet and let it air dry. Anyway, I think I've mentioned before that I could talk about my hair for hours, so its best not to get me started. :-)

Tex, I use this conditioner from Aveda, it comes in a tube and is thick and contains LOTS of plant pigments. Right now I'm trying to maintain a semi-permanent auburn color, so I'm using their Annato conditioner. You might do well with Madder root, which is brighter. I guarantee that if you use this conditioner a few times a week and let it soak in, your hair will stay colorful much much longer.

-Ll

p.s. easy styling- maybe an edgy bob? or long enough that you can still do a pony-tail, but cut some layers for movememnt and body.

shorter than pony-tail means that you Will have to style it a bit every morning.
