Passport arrives 9 months after application

Posted by ClearSkies on January 16, 2007, at 8:39:46

Why, it's like a little baby. 9 months! Let's hear it for Canadian bureaucracy, which must rank in the top 10 least efficient in the western world.

Now, I must get to work using this baby before it expires in 5 years.

Wow CS, that's awful!

My husband's passport came in 5 weeks. Mine came in 6, and my office-mate's came in 3.

But then again, we live in the USA, where [censored uncivil thought]

When my husband became a US citizen a few months ago, his response (besides happiness) was the sentiment "now I'm a target"

are you planning on travelling anywhere nice ?

Hubby has been making noises about the south of France. Also I really, really want to see Monte Carlo where my favourite F1 race of the year happens. Not that we'd actually be there for the race, but that wouldn't matter to me. He did want to go to a non-European Union country, but they are getting farther and farther away. Also, I would love to go to Latvia, where my mum is from. And maybe Russia. Oh, and all of South America is calling my name. And to see England again!, that would mean so much to me. And Italy. And Austria. And Belgium. And Sweden.

I think this passport will expire before I get all of this done. Hopefully, the next application process will be more efficient.

Oooh Clearskies, I didn't know you were F1 fan. Me too :)

I don't see many races, because I don't have cable, but I enjoy watching them. A great way to spend a saturday afternoon :)

Montecarlo- that's the course where the cars come very close to plunging into the ocean? Didn't one of the cars actually miss that curve a few years back?

Anyways, sounds very very posh and lovely. I think Latvia would be really exciting. Maybe you can spend some time in Helsinki or other Baltic cities too. The only Baltic cities I've been to is Lübeck (on the German Baltic coast).

South of France... mmm I can smell the lavender wafting on a warm breeze already... mmm

(((((CS))))))

Hey!

Hehehehe, I live on the Baltic coast! Actually I'm maybe 10km from the actual coast line itself.

I've been to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. And, of course, I live in Finland, so have been to Helsinki many times...if you need a guide!

But I've never been in the Southern Hemisphere, sadly. I take it you've just been there Lurpsie?

I was thinking about you Meri-T when I wrote this... "hmm, I wonder if Meri-T lives near the coast of Finland...?"

I just got back from the S. Hemisphere about a week ago. We were in Argentina and Uruguay. From my impressions, Argentina is more cosmopolitan and commercialized than Uruguay, but the culture seems to be very similar. We spent our time in the Buenos Aires and Entre Rios Provinces. The different things we did on our trip include

1) Eating fine food in B. Aires. Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian influence. Very relaxing and high quality wines, cheese and meats. Save room for dessert.

2) Afternoon on the beach at Pinamar. Not as nice a beach resort as those in Phuket Thailand (my last beach vacation) Fairly developed, though.

3) Stays at 2 different Estancias (arranged through an equestrian travel agency in the USA) Very reasonable price for full room and board and all inclusive activities and wine at meals. Extremely relaxing and scenic. Picturesque landscapes of the pampa and lots of fantastic horseriding on gorgeous horses. And gauchos- you can see how the cowboy culture is different between the N. American "wild west" and the S. American Pampas. yee haw.

4. Naps. Lots of nice long naps.

5. Shopping for beautiful handicrafts (woolen shawls and such, silverware, silver and gemstone jewelery, fine leather, yerba mate accoutrements)

6. Anything that you would expect to find in a big city you can find in B. Aires, like shopping malls, movie theaters (in Eng. with Sp. subtitles), oreo cookies, diet coke, mineral water, internet cafes, EXCEPT: NO STARBUCKS. yes, folks. This culture, addicted to an espresso culture has zero starbucks, from what we observed in 16 days. Decaf? forgeddaboudit.

bon voyage

Sounds amazing! I'm very envious of your trip! I was speaking to a gal from Peru the other day, and I would live to go there, well anywhere in S America really. Trouble is, its pretty far from Finland! And I can't speak a word of spanish.

We have no starbucks here in Finland either. Thank goodness - I don't particulary like them to be honest. They're quite expensive and I hate the fact that they look all the same. Same furniture, same sandwiches, same cakes.... Although we have plenty of very very good coffee shops here, but I've not really seen decaf here really either.

Kind regards

Meri-Tuuli

Hi, have any of you been to Prague (Czech)? I'm going for a weekend soon,I've never been before. I'm not even sure what currency they use - is it the Euro? I live in England. Last year I went to Sorrento in Italy, which was lovely, great for history, people watching, food, natives are very friendly. It'd be nice to see a bit of sunshine...

> Hi, have any of you been to Prague (Czech)?

Yes I have. Its quite nice, I expect it will be cold at this time of year through. They don't use the Euro yet. I can't actually remember what their currency is actually!! Oh well. It was much cheaper than the UK through and the drinks and food were pretty good, and so was the nightlife. In fact the nightlife was fantastic! There was this club with like four floors or something, and each floor had a different style of music, so it was quite cool. I stayed in several youth hostels and I had a ball. There's quite alot of touristy things to do as well, and lots of sort of gothic monuments and its all very nice.

Have fun!

Kind regards

Thanks Meri, I've just found out the currency is the Krona or Kruna. Cold weather is fine, as long as it's not rainy! Thanks again. Jo
