Well folks,
It's time for me to get my hair cut.1) I will see my mom next week, who always says something incredibly critical and hurtful about my hair when it's grown past my shoulders. My personal favorite was one Christmas dinner in front of 25 relatives she wanted to tell an amusing anecdote. "My daughter doesn't even get her hair cut, I mean, look at her, she's starting to look like a 'maiden of science'" And I was right there. I still haven't forgotten that one. Seared into my insecure little soul.
2) I have started to wear it in ponytails or pigtails. My hair is too thin to look good in these styles, and then I just look like a lazy schlump, which I am.
3) I'm going to try to create a symbolic change. Last time my hair was cut was before I was diagnosed with my mental illness. Maybe if I cut off my hair, I can say bye bye to the past. Sayonara anhedonia. Don't come back!!
I found a photo in a magazine that I liked. Now I'm going to the salon. As soon as I can get dressed and out the door. which I've been trying to do since 6:30 am. but I had to take two naps. ugh.

A 'maiden of science'? That sounds like something to be proud of to me. And what is it with parents and hair anyway? Can't please 'em. If it's long, they like it short, and vice versa.
I hope your new haircut turns out lovely. I'm a DIY haircut person myself.

Well, I went to a new salon and was a walk-in. And I got a young gay guy who was a perfectionist and we had an interesting chat about alternative medicine and eastern religion. He was cool. And my hair looks great. I'm definitely going back! And the best thing is that it's in my neighboorhood. I don't have to go to the city to get a polished look.
thanks for hugs :) I won't put off going to get it cut regularly now that I know it's not going to be such trauma. My last cut months ago was this woman who was so dim. So incredibly dim. I had absolutely nothing to say to her, and she couldn't even tell me anything about her life except that she like to go out on the weekends. And the worst was at the end, she was showing my cut to her colleague and said "well, it's a little higher on the right than the left" I guess that's because I'm right handed. "Um HELLO!!! I'm listening! This is MY head that has to carry around your imprecise handiwork for the next several months!" And she didn't fix it either.

llrrrpp how bout one of those stacked ones. A lot of women have them around here they look great. You know the ones where the back is shorter than the sides? Wish I was young enough for one. pouting. Love Phillipa

There's this place right by my house, like 2 blocks away, and I drive by it everyday and think about stopping. So today, with the new job coming up, I decided I needed it done professionally for once (rather than coloring it myself and going to the $10 place). Man, it looks awesome. And it was inexpensive too! I got blonde highlights on the top, and a color called cherry cola underneath (it mostly shows on the ends). Its so cool! And the haircut rocks too! I feel so trendy!

Cool Tex!
You sound much braver than me! I was going to do highlights, but I was worried it might be too expensive. Maybe next time I go, when I make an appt. Then I won't feel like I'm a bother.I have this precious quote from one of my friends, who's not a native English speaker
"great mind feel alike"

> You sound much braver than me! I was going to do highlights, but I was worried it might be too expensive. Maybe next time I go, when I make an appt. Then I won't feel like I'm a bother.I've gotten braver by degrees. Go slow with 'natural' looking highlights first. Later you can work up to a 'chunkier' look (bigger sections of hair are lightened). Then you'll be ready for 'lowlights' (same as highlights but with a darker color instead of a lighter one, usually used along with the highlights), which I haven't really done yet. Getting the underneath a dark color is kind of an inbetween step - not as bold as streaks of a dark color throughout. Next time I'll do that I think.
Yeah, they can be expensive. That's why I've been coloring it myself for so long. But this chic had a special going on that was really good, so I decided now was a time to splurg. Of course now I have to worry about keeping it up, but maybe I can afford it now with my new better paying job!

> "great mind feel alike"That reminds me of my Chinese friend I used to work with. Instead of saying, 'a long time ago', he would say, 'long times ago'. We became close enough that I could make fun of him until he stopped saying it. He made fun of me about stuff too. That was just how our relationship was.
He taught me how to count to 10 in Cantonese. I had to demonstrate it for his parents when they came over from Bejing for his wedding. They said I did well. What a hard freaking language. There are different ways of saying a word that sounds exactly the same to me. Like, 'Wong' is a name, and also means 'dog' (I think that's the right name). He'd say, one is 'wong', the other is 'wong'. I never could tell the difference.
His wedding is when I fell in love with Chinese babies. Their hair sticks straight up! Its so cute! I told him if I hit 40 without having a baby I'm going to adopt a Chinese baby.

Actually I love all babies. Which ever one I'm with is always my favorite.

so far so good :)

For me its whether I can get away with just washing it and letting it air dry. I like to be able to fix it up too, but their are some days when you just don't have time, and I want it to look at least decent without doing anything to it. Yeah, I don't ask for much.

TC,
Especially considering the CLIMATE where you live! Hot, humid. Not exactly the best for perfect wash and wear hair! :-)

> MBRight! It always seems too hot to use the hair dryer, even with the air cranked up inside. And any type of style that involves holding in place with hair spray, you might as well forget it. As soon as you walk outside everything wilts. If I actually style my hair I usually wear it straight and flipped out or under on the ends, nothing fancy. That seems to stay 'fairly' well. But for the most part, this time of year its best just to wear it up because if its down, by the time I've walked out of the house, got in the car, and am waiting for the air to cool off, the back is soaking wet with sweat (sounds lovely doesn't it?). As for makeup you have to wear very little or very waterproof.
July and August are the worst (they're called the dog days of summer). You have to just wait it out, drink lots of slurpies, and stay inside or in water as much as possible. Speaking of which, I'm dying for a slurpy right now.

My hair looked okay today, but it's super hot here, and humid too, and the styling product has left me looking a bit oily. Time for a shower! [then we can test out wash and go]
And an ICED VANILLA LATTE!!!!
that's my answer to a slurpie.
I have to keep up a steady caffeine drip, or else I'm going to have to nap instead of doing my 10 loads of laundry :) feeling kinda loopy. I HATE meds. ugh.

yep, i got my hair bobbed.
Talk about trust,
A hairdresser cutting hair with a straight edge razor rather than shears.
had to close my eyes and ignore the scrape of razor against my neck!! aaaaa!
I don't know how men deal with this...

I always have to get mine thinned out with a razor, otherwise its just too thick and heavy. It makes it fluffier when its not so weighed down.
