It was perfect.. Last sunday my husband and I were in the supermarket shopping, he was off looking at TV's (as men do!) and I saw the watermelons and had a craving. He had the trolley, so I picked it up and headed his way. As I walked up to him he turned to me, and said
"What are you doing"
It was perfect, one of those moments when the plants align perfectly, and I replied
"I'm carrying a water melon".
He had NO idea why I was so thrilled *laughing* But any woman of my rough age will grin, and agree that Dirty Dancing is a life changing movie *laughing*
I have always wanted to have an opportunity to say that *lol*, just like, all I really want in life, is a man who can dance with me like Johnny in Dirty Dancing *l*Damn life was easy when I was 13 *L*

The story didn't have a happy ending *giggling*
THe check out boy couldn't find the price.. Its was peak time on a saturday, and the queue were getitng restless, so in the end I had to tell him not to bother..
So I didn't get my water melon.. but I did get to discuss whether or not salt should be added to the melon with an american friend for hours *L*

I think I used to salt mine when I was a kid. I like it w/o now.
Does anyone here put pepper on cottage cheese? I don't but know those who do. Wondering if it's a southern thing.p
I guess they should put barcodes on melons.

Well, watermelon always cheers me up. But summer depresses me.
However, watermelon is one of those things that make summer bearable. :)
(We've been having watermelons what seems like year round lately. It's somewhat discombobulating.)

I've noticed that here, too. Hard to keep your seasons straight.

Ice cream should be a controlled substance. I'd be ripping off pharmacies left and right.

I don't like watermelon, myself, but I used to buy them for my friends in return for the rinds. My late beloved mare used to like watermelon rind. She didn't care for the melon itself, but she'd fight you for the rinds.
I miss her.

Racer,
I'm kinda like your mare
I eat down to the rind. I like it!!
I'm such a freak. It reminds me of one of my favorite things from my childhood
green watermelon pickles
basically cubes of watermelon rind (take the peel off) gently pickled in sweet and sour vinegar. Eat chilled. very chilled. I don't know how to describe. This might be a southern thing.

My collie would snitch watermelon rinds. We always worried it would give her a sore tummy, but she appeared to be fine.
