Grownupness Revealed

Posted by Glydin on April 13, 2006, at 9:10:05

Some of you may recall, my almost 24 year old daughter moved out on her own several months ago. When I asked her what she thought she wanted for Easter, she replied: "I really need some lidded saucepans, a dutch oven, and a paper shredder but I don't know how padded the Easter Bunny's budget is this year....".

An Easter Basket filled with junk would be cheaper.....

I asked for a vacuum cleaner for my birthday!

Thanks for the laugh.

I asked for a stand mixer for Christmas once with specific instructions gifts of that nature were by request only...

The E Bunny and I went shopping today and the shredder and the cookware set got gotten. In the spirit of "crawling before you walk", the cookware set is serviceable (with a dutch oven included) but if she wants Calphalon or an equivalent she's gonna have to progress to that on her own.

You've got a very fortunate daughter.

Years back, I inherited my aunt's old cookware, when she inherited my grandmother's (and great-grandmother's) Revere. Then, last year, my aunt decided she didn't like having to care for the copper bottoms, so my husband and I paid half the price for her to get a set of Circulon, and we got the Revere.

I feel closer to my long-dead grandmother every Sunday morning, when I make palascintas for Sunday breakfast, in the same pan my grandmother used when she made them for us on Sundays. And I think I'm making them better now, too.

And I didn't get the vacuum cleaner then. I did get it later, but had to buy it myself...

Very nice of you to say. It has been a good ride with the normal stumbles and falling on our (her and us) faces. But, we are at the point that love and like co-exist - that's a really good place.

I remember from some previous postings of yours you are embarking on starting a family. I send all good wishes and luck to you on that. It redefines our lives in such a good way.

That is so comforting. I got a number of special memory items of my Mom's cooking and baking and her cookbooks after she died and some things after my Godmother died. They are wonderful to have.
