Scared to death of going back to work....

Posted by Colleen D. on January 21, 2006, at 20:41:11

I finally got a job that is going to pay me what I'm worth after looking for over a year, and I've now convinced myself I won't be able to function socially. I guess my soon-to-be ex shredded all of the self-esteem I hadn't already managed to shred myself. I feel a major panic attack coming on. This is horrible. I start next Tuesday.

First of all Congratulations! Someone recognizes your talents. What type of job is it? Will you be able to exit if you need to for a few minutes to relax? Fondlly, Phillipa

Congratulations - remember you are worth getting paid enough and certainly worthy of satisfying social relationships - you might be a gift to some people you meet, give yourself time, don't be too hard on yourself, one breath, day, person etc. at a time :-)
Good luck

Thanks, Phillipa! You're always so supportive! The company supplies patients with equipment and meds, delivers in-home health care, has a hospice house for the terminally ill and also gives end-of-life care for those who wish to die at home. I rented a breast pump from them when I was nursing my second baby and they came to my mom and dad's house to relive my dad's pain and give us support when he died last August.

I don't know my official title yet, but I will be the main support person for all computer software in the main office. When they offered me a third more in wages than I asked for, my jaw dropped with disbelief/surprise.

There is a big kitchen, a break room, and a conference room so I may be able to go to one of these places if I get nervous/anxious. I think I'm going to start taking my clonazepam in three doses during the day instead of one at night to see if that'll take the edge off initially.

Thanks again,
Colleen

Thanks so much. Maybe I just need to hear and see that I am a person of value and if I experience some success at work, my confidence will grow. I appreciate your kind words.

Colleen

Colleen D, I agree with Sleepy girl. One day person etc at a time. I take clonazepam before I go to work too. It seems to help. As far as your self esteem goes, let me tell you that you are worthy of good relationships and success. Perhaps you could get a book out of the library or bookstore on self esteem. That is my suggestion to everybody, but only cuz is helped me =P
