Vagina

Posted by verne on January 13, 2006, at 22:05:55

Why is it that it's acceptable to have a cake in the shape of a penis, make fun, and have links to an erect model? Yet if I cooked up a "vagina" cake, I'd be a sexist pig who objectifies women?

Just curious. Why is one acceptable and the other not? Is it a Lifetime Channel TV thing? Men bad, women good?

I'm sure if I had linked my post to a picture of a sexually-aroused vagina, there would have been an outcry.

What a double standard.

We can say pictures of erect penis cakes are wrong. The rub may be in saying, "Anyone who advocates pictures of erect penis cakes for any reason should be viewed with contempt."

This issue isn't black and white. There's a debate, even in government, about what sort of pictures of erect penis cakes should be allowed in extreme situations. Somehow these discussions need to remain civil and each side respect the other's point of view.

It would be better to talk about what a good thing pictures of erect penis cakes are, rather than speak negatively about those with opposing views - no matter how extreme.

I can't really picture a vagina cake, but a vulva cake sounds like a lovely idea.

I didn't see any black and white in what Verne wrote at all. And I'm not sure if you were implying that he wasn't being the P.B version of civil, but I didn't think that either.
I apologize if you were talking about another discussion that I missed, maybe in the news or something.

I thought he stating what attitude he sees exists at present, (and what I agree to be the case)

As for saying what a good thing Erect Penis Cakes are.. well I'm not sure whether it's that I agree that there is a double standard or just because it's plain tacky..or that I'm amazed I'm even typing the words "Erect Penis Cake" for any reason at all.. but I'm hard pressed (ha, no pun intended) to find anything good to say about them.

Hey James,

I see the axe grinding.

When did I disparage anybody? When did I get personal or view another's point of view with contempt?

Nice to be quoted and paraphrased though.

Hi Gabbix,

I think James was making a comparison to a previous post I made on the admin board at: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20051013/msgs/578181.html

But how can discussing the good of humane treatment the *opposite* of torture, be compared to saying good things about the ERECT PENIS CAKE (Something about that just compels me to type it in capitol letters : )
In order for that comparison to be derived from your admin post, You would have had to suggest that "It's better to discuss what a good thing torture is, than to criticize it"

oh well..

Good thinking. And while eating the cake and the half-mango you could contemplate this timeless image

I think it is because women (at least some women) feel that they have been oppressed sexually for years, and have some issues with compulsiveness with new things or ideas (as many of us do).

In other words, it used to be okay for men to go to "stagg" parties and bachelor parties where women jumped out of cakes and stripped naked....but women had "showers" where they sat around and had punch and cake, discussing various recipes for meatloaf.

It seems that once the flood gates were opened and the sexually connotated activities of men became more acceptable or just plain "done" by women as well.......women seemed to run with the issue and perhaps got a little out of hand.

Now, having said that, and not so eloquently, I might add.........I must say this,

Is it really possible to make a vagina (or vulva as was mentioned previously) and have it actually look like what it is supposed to be portraying??? Booby cakes, easy. Penis cakes, easy.....but vagina/vulva???? seems kinda hard to me.

Although, I did make some Schwans chinese pot stickers for a New Years Eve party once. Everyone said they looked like little vaginas. I didn't see the resemblance, but who am I to judge.

I guess it's not as hard as I thought to simulate an image of a vagina. However, it looks like it's full of pees.............(no pun intended)

interesting thought considering (not to be too blunt) you kind of have to go out of your way (as a heterosexual woman anyway) to see them

I took the "is it a lifetime channel thing" and "what a double standard" as sarcastic or attacking. I've been wrong before.

It was interesting for me to possibly step outside of the civility guidelines. I experienced avoidance feelings that I had to deal with.

I got fired from my job for sending a weird letter to my insurance company. I'm contemplating doing the same thing with a jury summons. This experience has forced me to examine that behavior more closely.

I appologize to the community for taking someone's words out of context. I wouldn't want that to happen to me. It seemed funny at that minute.
