Yes it is possible to get SSI for those symptoms.
You have to prove that they are severely disabling. Usually a diagnosis of schizophrenia and several years treatment will do this. You must not be employed currently. You have to prove that you are facing a long-term disability.
For SSI you also have to be broke. As in you may not have more than $2000. You cannot save any money on SSI.
If you have a truly severe illness and have never been able to work SSI is perfect for you. Usually the treating physician will tell you to apply for disability if they think you are qualified. If you feel you are disabled but you haven't been told to apply for disability it might be best to question your treating physician about this. Usually they will support your claim if you have a psychotic disorder.
Remember, a diagnosis of schizophrenia is a lot more than "hearing voices" and depression and anxiety claims are usually denied. It is helpful to have documented negative and cognitive symptoms. If you have these your doctor will have noted them on your chart.

When I was put on Disability I was currently employed but running out of my short term disability. My pdoc simply asked me if I wanted to go back to work and the next thing I knew I was receiving Disability. The Medicare says it could be terminated if I do go back to work. And my diagnosis was at the time PTSD. The pdoc is crooked though. And that is true. He is under investigation right now. I no longer see him but my anxiety and depression have gotten worse since I've stayed home. I wouldn't advise it if it were me as I'm a Registered Nurse and now they want me to go back to school to work again. And I'm 59 and my back can't handle the strain of med surg which they require. And they also require full time and I wanted parttime in psych again. The system is very strange as the nursing board said it's a catch 22. Fondly, Phillipa
