My 8 year old watched and enjoyed it, but I always suggest for a parent to watch first and decide.
There is no sex. swearing, vulgarity etc, but there is the teacher telling a big lie and having to apologize. (And even though my child is smart, I did feel concerned that he would think it 'cool'. Fortunately - he didn't).
Also, in this instance, my son knew most of the music. (Mom still impressed!)
It really is a sweet movie. Let me know if you get to watch it.

My kids said to me, you've got to watch this, you'll love it. (Because I'm always complaining about popular culture.) And I did, it was great.
An old fahioned movie in a way.
