Things I wish I said or could say

Posted by gardenergirl on July 17, 2005, at 23:39:10

I'd much rather be "fat and sassy" than brittle and soulless. (Don't you live family reunions?)

Knock if off, you two!

You mean if I ignore you, you'll go away?

Aaaaaah, that explains it!

And your point is?

You know, you really are a very rude man.

What the hell is wrong with you, anyway????

Stop with the creepy hugs, already! My breasts are not for your squishing pleasure!

And good golly, that hairpiece is AWFUL!

Yes, you've said that...8 million times in the last two hours!

Can you please try to go more than one and a half minutes without saying something random just to hear yourself speak?

Um, that's all very interesting and all, but I actually called to tell YOU something very important.

Use your damn turn signal, *sshole!

And finally,

Thanks, I think so too.

hi GG,
those are all good ones. I once got called "jolly" at a family reunion, while my sister was called "lovely." I absolutely positively DETEST being called "jolly." It brings to mind mental images of roly-poly doughboy creatures with red cheeks. After being called jolly, I wanted to cry. But I had to keep smiling and being "jolly" so as not to appear unfriendly....fun!

Here are a few others that I sometimes wished I could say in certain situations, some of which include get-togethers. (but life is complicated, and it would cause too many issues, so they of course didn't get said!)

You certainly are a smug M***ther f*****, aren't you!

I can't imagine that you keep a lot of friends, am I right?

Your need to appear erudite and learned must surely be a paper-thin layer covering a seething mass of insecurity and flaws of all kinds

Don't worry, we don't think you're memorable, either.

***********************

Wow, it DOES feel better just to write it all down, even if I can't really say it! :) Thanks for getting the ball rolling. I feel like I just let off a bit of steam now.

The lady at the bank asked me if I was pregnant.

When I said no, she said 'good, I thought you were too old for that'

Which leads to my favorite answer when someone says something incredibly stupid.

Excuse me?

Very funny!! However ... I have been known to say one or two of the above list if I have had it with the stupid small talk.

"if I ignore you, you'll go away?" ... my favorite

My 11 year old daughter will say to adults (if joining my conversation), "that was random". It cracks me up because she is dead on when she says it. I have to hold back my laughter and be all grown up and excuse her behavior.

I'm glad you saw the humor at the reunion and you didn't get rained on. I was thinking of you. I was at my kids swim meet and it rained for a solid 2 hours ... pure misery.

Heard my usually very placid boss use a beauty the other day to a persistently irritating individual.

"Honestly I think it's a case of mind over matter. I don't mind, and you don't matter!"

All wonderful additions, keep em coming! (nm)

I love it. Here's my attempt to add to it. One of my favorite movies was Real Genius and this is a paraphrase of one of my favorite lines:
Talking to parents: Your daughter (son) is so bright, is there any chance she (he) was adopted?

Another from the same film: I was contemplating the words of Socrates who said "I drank what?".

From "The Princess Bride": Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

Sometimes I just want to call people on their pretentious behavior and ask "and you are an expert on this because...."

I never get to use these lines.... I just bite my tongue or I think of it a moment too late...but even if I think of it on time I would still bite my tongue.

You all have great lines, I just wish I had enough retention to use them, but alas as quickly as I read them, they are gone. Drat that short term memory!

I've gotten the pregnant question, but unfortunately only from nice people.

I've learned to take it in stride.

But "I didn't realize how much you looked like your mother" still makes me want to burst into tears. I would like to say

"Surely you can't believe that that could be considered anything but insulting."

But I can't, because that would be insulting my mother, as well as telling off the perpetrator.

Generally I only bite my tongue if I think it could hurt nice people.

Other than that, I usually manage to make my point.

A prosecutor asked us, during voir dire, if I would hold it against him that he had given immunity to a witness. I answered "Against you... or the case?"

Oddly, I didn't get chosen.

Your taste sucks.

You have the ugliest house I've ever seen.

Who in the hell sold you those drapes?

I absolutely will not decorate an entire room around a couch that pathetic.

If your dog tries to hump on me one more time, I will crush its skull.

I had an airport bathroom attendant ask when my baby was due. She was Hispanic and seemed so caring, I just couldn't get mad. But it was awkward.

Grrrr
