Windham Hill, especially earlier music. I especially love their Record Sampler 1984. Also, the theme from Terms of Endearment.

Varies a bit, but Alison Moyet is always in the top ten. In fact, Alison Moyet -- both on her own and during her days in Yaz -- is probably most of the top ten...
Of course, Alison Moyet is also in the top ten of my Music To Feel Good To list, as well...
And my Neutral Music list...

Eels - Electroshock Blues. With songs like 'My Descent Into Madness' it says it all really...
It starts with 'Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor' - his sister who killed herself and then the progression of depression and hospital. One or two tentatively hopeful songs at the end.

Though...
De Phazz are pretty cool. Especially 'Death By Chocolate'. Its a nice sound that doesn't grate when one is feeling down (as I find that some 'happy' music does) and I feel in a better mood while and after I've listened to it.

I forgot entirely one of the other bands that I put on when I'm depressed: The Chills! Some other Flying Nun bands, but mostly The Chills.

KornThen I also have a bunch of singles that I listen to. I tend to make a lot of cd's of my own mixes. I actually have certain cd's that were specifically made for when I'm feeling depressed.
I love my hard music! Unfortunately, this type of music makes me even more depressed, but boy does is numb me good. :-P

I've quit listening to music almost completely. Odd, especially since I took 10 years of piano and even minored in it in collage for a while. I haven't played in probably 25 years now.
Music makes you feel--and I guess I just don't want to hurt that much.

That's one of their most popular songs, and I quite like it.
If you feel like searching a bit more, there are a lot of songs on their album "Submarine Bells" that are great when melancholy strikes. One of my favorite albums -- although there are a few tracks that are a bit dirgy for me...

Thanks Racer. I got an i-pod not so long ago so I'm having a lot of fun filling it up. I just recently noticed that you can sometimes listen to albums on Amazon. Does that mean you can download them into your playlist too?????
I have heard of the Chills. I'm really terrible at putting the names of artists to the names of songs to the songs.
Have you heard of "Supergroove"? They were really popular... Well... When I was at high school. Don't know if they are still together, but I should try and get hold of some of that. The lead singer was doing his PhD in philosophy up at Auckland. Its amazing how many grad students in philosophy are in bands. Not me. I'll have to brush up on my triangle :-)

Pretty much anything by Mazzy Star. I tend to play You Are Free by Cat Power a lot too. The Badloves and The Sundays figure pretty highly too.

am i too young or old to know most of this music??? born in 77??? i luv music but a lot of the things listed i havnt heard of?? anyway i like.....country, all kinds when im bummed but i also like everything from janice joplin to the eagles to meatloaf and counting crows along w/ pop. -southern in Carolina :-D
