Larry and Jay in the Great Green North

Well, July 1'st this year was a really cool day (well, it's ALWAYS cool because it is Canada's Birthday..(Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée

Ooopss....my singing sucks..heh. So, I was heading up North to see this very nice, yet mysterious guy named Larry Hoover. I dropped into my office before for some brief work. Then I grab a bite to eat, and my case full of cd's, hop in the car, and turn the music up to..like..15! I (shamelessly ;-) bought myself a new car stereo and was going to put it to the test on this trip. With the air-conditioner just right, music rockin' and crackling with life, and a nice clear blue sky, I didn't mind all the other cranky people on the road.

So, it was a nice 3 or so hour trip (with heavy traffic...otherwise it would have been shorter.) It's amazing how much passes through your mind on long trips...almost everything and anything. Heck, driving by Pickering, Ontario and area, with those 'cute' nuclear power plants, I was tempted to stop and see if I could find any 7 legged animals...or even Homer Simpson. :-)

Well, I arrive in Lar's town, and get to my Holiday Inn. I booked the hotel because they had what I wanted for a relaxing day/evening...room service, cocktail lounge, pool and hot tub. But...THEN the 'customer service' person told me I had to stay TWO nights..not just one, which I wanted because I had to be home for some family stuff the next evening. I protested to no gain...there where many people waiting to fill those rooms. I seriously thought of just paying for the two nights anyways..but I did see some other nice hotels around. Thing is, it was a holiday weekend...would everything be booked up? Luckily I got into another fairly nice hotel, but it was nothing great.

Alright. So, I give Larry a phone call, and this friendly voice answers, and it was the man himself. Now, one other thing to point out is that I upped my Seroquel the night before by 200 mg's, so I have a little 'cat nap' after chatting with Lar. Then I ran around and grabbed a few things I needed at the corner store and drug store. I ended up being an hour late calling Larry back, and I thought he must have thought I was some serious psychotic by now..lol. So, Lar then swings by my hotel suite...and I couldn't offer him anything to drink or eat because there was no f*cking room service! (Oh, the hardships of life..eh!?..heh.)

So, we decide to hop into his car and make our way downtown to see a concert where Tom "Life Is A Highway" Cochrane was playing...outside right on the lake. We parked (quite 'creatively'..lol) and went and grabbed something to eat. Of course, stupid me orders and doesn't even take a bite out of the food.

We then walked our way down to the waterfront, and stupid me (again!) doesn't wear socks in his running shoes, and I give birth to a sweet big blister. So, I am like..."Oh..man..Hey Lar...hang on a sec.." every 30 seconds..lol. So, we get in the park where the concert is, and find a nice place about 140 miles from the stage. (It's all those OTHER people's fault!! They should have known we where coming!!..heh.) Larry brought his binoculars...I brought my glasses. So, I then have a 'Seroquel' moment, and my blood sugar drops to the ground, and I almost fall into a narcoleptic-type sleep. I knew I had to get something to eat and drink...sugar and carbs...and I was short of killing somebody to get to the front of the food stand.

Then we huddled against a cool breeze as Tom rocked the stage...and his soundperson was having their first day on the job. (Not the best of sound..lol.) Regardless, it was nice, though. (There is also a picture on the www.tomcohrane.com website of a very, very drunk me beside a sober Tom 'the rock star'...isn't that ironic??..he was as straight as an arrow..heh...and this is from about 6 years ago.)

We stayed for the fireworks...which where awesome as well. So for a guy whacked out on Seroquel..I think I did okay..heh. Larry was great company, and you wouldn't know it, but he had all sorts of things to deal with too. Lar dropped me off at my hotel around 11pm or so. I just collapsed!

The next day..for some reason I went into the Chapter's bookstore (in which I have one just down the street from my house!!..doh!) and raked up a couple hundred bucks in books. To be fair, quite a few of them where gifts. Then I grabbed some A&W and was on my way home (and my cholesterol on the way up!..hahaaa)

And...now yes, you can unclench your fists, because this is the end. lol.

Jay

Very glad you enjoyed, AK. :-) I thought it would 'lighten' things up here a bit, with all the tension. Did I mention the flying midgets? lol.

Best,
Jay
