Well they hurt me bad they do it all the time

I love them :-)
And Pink Floyd (especially the Syd Barret days - and Roger Waters is pretty good too)
And... Showing my age here peoples - I like hip hop / rap. Eminem and Puff Daddy and stuff like that. And Rage Against the Machine and Sepultura etc etc.

"it's hard to be a human being
harder as anything else
im lonesome when you're around"

I've gotten lots out of radiohead, matthew good, tool, the shins, and many others as well. Right now I'm listening to the Be good Tanyas... "only in the past", what a sweet sweet melody.

Yup, Radiohead. I have most of theirs too :-)
Some of it is a little too depressing when you aren't in the mood though. Actually, now that I think about it ditto for Pink Floyd and most everything I own...

Alanis Morrissette too.
Another Canadian :-)
I know a lot of people are violently opposed to her
(and what does 'ironic' mean???)
But I like her.
A borderline if ever there was one :-)

'Burn the books they've got too many names and psychoses

LOL :-) I believe you. I was a kid too! I heard a song on the radio this morning that brought back some memories of my misspent youth -Radar Love. That was a great song! Hey, do you remember The Mexican by Babe Ruth? So many good songs from the past. < Sigh > I am feeling nostalgic. Funny how that is - you can hear a song and it seems to take you back to a time in your past.

One band I have liked for a number of years now is Blue Rodeo (they are Canadian, and so am I eh!). Alot of their lyrics are so moving for me that I could listen to some songs over and over.

Maybe I'll just list kinds of music instead. Let's see there's rock, R&B, blues, folk, jazz singing. Hmmmm too open-ended but still don't want to bore you all with a long list. Maybe I'll just mention Leonard Cohen. Anyone ever heard of him? Love his music and his lyrics are the best. (Now I'm really showing my age - and my eccentricity.)

I like to listen to him once in a while, when I am in the mood. I have always liked Jennifer Warnes' album - Famous Blue Raincoat, which is a compilation of Leonard Cohen's songs. It's old, but I still like it.

Yes, but once you acquire the taste, it's great. His voice is strange at first but I find it oddly soothing. I have that Jennifer Warnes' album. It's really an interesting interpretation of his work. I love the title song. It's a great title, don't you think?

~~ It's true. I kinda like his voice too. I like all the songs on the disk. First We Take Manhattan is a cool song. I saw Jennifer Warnes in concert many years ago. She doesn't really have much stage presence (IMO), but I like her voice and remember enjoying the concert.

Oh yeah, he's a genius. Every time I listen to his music (no matter how often) I'm in awe of what he 's able to say in just one song, and it never gets tired.

I'm late getting in in this one, but I think it's almost impossible to stay blue listening to (step into the way-back machine) Sly and the Family Stone... like Stand, Dance to the Music, Hot Fun in the Summertime, Thank You (Falettime Be Mice Elf Agin), and...

Everybody is a sta-ar
I can feel it - when you shine on me
I love you for who you a-are
Not the one you think you need to be...

If I'm feeling all lovey-dovey thinking about my hubby, I like to listen to Bruce Springsteen's Tunnel of Love album. I LOVE Tougher Than the Rest!

Also like Leo Kottke, and has anybody else heard of Eddie LeJeune and the Morse Playboys? Another one that's hard to not smile with.
