In case anyone cares, it's my birthday Sunday. My wife asked what I wanted and I said, for her to be well.

I looked up Toph in the dictionary and found the following:

toph (n.) a kind of sandstone.
(This definition is from the 1913 Webster's Dictionary and may be outdated.)

Funny, my kids say I'm outdated also.

Sandstone is new rock, in a geological sense. It hasn't been squashed enough yet to be any other kind of stone.

So, there. You're a geological baby.

Happy birthday. My AA birthday is Sunday, too.

I won't have computer access on Sunday, so let me offer my congrats ahead of time...

Happy Birthday, Toph!!!!!!! (My kid says I'm outdated, too, by the way- I think it's just kid-melodrama)

Happy Re-Birthday, AuntieMel !!! (you are a strong, wonderful woman!)

kisses to you both,

Happy early birthday Toph,

Even if your wish isn't granted on the exact date of your birth, hopefully it will be over time.

BTW, my kids have already proven I am outdated, but that's ok. I think it's a law that parents have to be seen that way.

But birthdays are like boogers, the more you have the harder it is to breathe.

I already have two birthday gifts, my wife's biopsy came back negative. I'm a little pissed that the radiologist missed the aspiration which would have made the surgery unnecessary, but J*** is glad to have it out. There is no apparent deforming of her breast despite a 3" incision. All in all, its the best news I've had in a long time.

The other gift is that Sarah called in tears to say that she broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years. I never liked the guy since he hurt her in high school. He's in a rock band and dropped out of college to work as bugs bunny at Great America (I thought he should be a clown). I'm not happy she's upset but I'm pleased that she realized that she loved him and he is just dependent on her. In my view she deserves better, but what do I know, I'm just a dad.

Going out to dinner with some friends and then to a comedy club. Because of the lab results I should be able to laugh my *ss off.

Thanks again for the sentiments everyone.
Toph

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOPH!!!

I hate birthdays myself.
I feel old.
I know people will say that that is silly and I am still young
But that doesn't change that I feel old.
I hope you have a really nice birthday Toph.

I baked you a virtual cake.
I hope you like virtual chocolate and cream cheese icing.
You are lucky it is a virtual cake 'cause I can't bake usually - but this one turned out just perfect.
I won't say how many candles are on it ;-)
But don't forget to make a wish!
:-)

Okay I have to make Toph a cake too, now. Mine will be a black forest with kirsch, sour cherries and whip cream. It takes 24 hours but if I start now, which I will as soon as I get off this thing, it'll be ready for tomorrow. And when we eat it IRL, Toph, I'll let you know. ;-)

Mmmmm. Black forest, my favourite. How about putting some of your 'reminants' in it too??? We can have ourselves a PARTY!

Susan, that Black Forest cake was awesome, though I got a little buzz from the kirsch. And alex your baking was great, too. I'm not sure I've had upside down cake before! The comedian was a gas. His name was Uncle Lar but he didn't seem bright enough to be the Larry we know. But he cracked me up with a bunch of sick jokes. J*** is being so nice to me that it's beginning to look like all the drama of the past few weeks had something to do with her fear of cancer. Duh. Thanks again for the virtual cakes. If I'm on line tomorrow you'll have to check out my virtual birthday suit.

It's Sunday arvo here in Sydney. So happy birthday from downunder! Guess since the girls baked cakes I better do the bloke thing and supply some virtual grog.

Since it's a double celebration (great news about your wife too) I think Krug or Dom Perignon would be appropriate. So can I ask you all to charge your glasses in a toast to the Tophmeister. Hope this is the start of happier times ahead for you both.

Thanks mate. I didn't think you came to see me in the altogether. So far, my birthday has been a real dazzler. But I was hoping for a lamington or two. The Krug will suit me fine. So here's to Damos and here's to me. Now I'm off me face and *rse over t*ts like the ocher I am. Keep this from me sheila OK?

Happy Birthday from me, too! You naughty boy, you. I will check out your v.b.s. tomorrow if you like. I will. Really. {giggle}

Well, me and the other Care Bears, we're kinda not too equipped for baking, being bears and all, and besides, those two cakes sounded like MORE than enough. So we just have a regular ole virtual hug for you...

(((Toph))) Hope the day is/was special...as you are. -- 10derHeart

My glass is raised. Happy Birthday to a lovely person. I notice nobody asked how old you are today. May I be the first? You may politely decline to respond, if you wish.

I have been in and out of functioning awareness over the past several weeks. Sorta like a functioning alcoholic, which I am and somewhat like walking phneumonia. Needless to say, I have been dealing with many issues and still been able to functions as I usually do, and noone is the wiser. One issue of which apparently I have shared with your wife unbeknownst to me. I however did not have to be cut upon and was basically poo-pooed by my doctor, but my concern was justified by a radiologist.........and my fears calmed just the same by him. But anyway, I digress from the purpose of my post, and I seem to be out of the loop on many threads here, just caught up partially this morning. I couldn't let your birthday go unnoticed by me. Happy belated birthday. I hope it was a wonderful day, sounds like it probably was. Cheers to you, you beautiful, funny, sarcastic, poetic, artistic, and yes, loving man. I can tell in your posts about your family that you are a good father and husband. Keep up the good work, and celebrate your life.

Ada, full of sugar this morning, Grace

I'm glad at least some of your worries were laid to rest and I'll say a toast to you, as well, while I lift my glass for Toph's birthday!

I had a glass of wine and toasted to you last night when I finished "moving into the apt" for the evening (about ten o'clock my time), just so you know another birthday wish is out there for you, Toph!!!

Sooooooo happy to hear about J***; I had a feeling she was being ultra snippy because she was scared.... I have a tendency to do that, too)

XOXOXOX

My better half made me breakfast, we went to the dog park together (I usually take Gus myself), we looked for stuff at Home Depot for our renovated bathroom, all my kids called without me having to remind them, then we went to have dinner with my parents. J*** was so nice to me all day and the Cubs, Sox and Bulls all won (without my watching them).

I stayed away from the computer, mostly out of fear that 10derheart would see me in my birthday suit. But what a nice surprise to see that you guys care about a 53 year old manic-depressive (as they called it when I got it). What a nice gift to hear from Gracie.

All in all, it was a pretty good day despite my advancing age. I am reminded of something my grandmother would say when we celebrated her birthday:

"Birthdays are like boogers, the more you have, the harder it is to breathe."
She was quite the poet, my grandmother.

Thanks again, everyone.
Toph
