Hello again

I am returning after being gone for almost a year and just wanted to get to know who is out there to talk with and listen to on this board.

Hello. You could answer on a thread. Or tell those of us who know you not, something about yourself. No doubt posters who know you will start chiming in soon saying, hey, DJB, how are you, good to see you, etc. ...

I live in TX and like to write emails. I am studying to get a master's in Counseling and have trouble from time to time with depression my T and I are using Cognitive Behavorial Therapy to try and change that. I have a few other issues but am reluctant to discuss some of them at this point. I spend a lot of time online and use it at times to feel more connected to others. I wrote a poem called Legacy of Abuse and posted it the writing board but it has been archieved. That was my only other post I think besides one about CBT.

Thank you for pointing out that I left out a large portion of the reading / posting population by not giving out much information. And thank you for your quick response.

DJ

I am just glad you are okay. That is what really matters. You don't owe me any emails so don't carry any guilt on my behalf. Answering here is reply enough.

Hey DJB, I'm Damos, pleased to meet you. How are you finding the counselling qualification, been think of going down that road myself for a long time and still managing to talk myself out of it. I'd be really interested in your experiences.

Well to be honest I am finding it intriguing myself as a person who is working toward being on the other side of the table or in the other chair. . . lol. I have some issues that I am working on and am trying my best to do well in school (can only afford one class at a time) but I have done well in my studies. I am finding that many people in counseling go into for personal reasons and I guess mine would be the controversy over BPD and DID (or its existsnce for that matter). I have known too many people who are able to maintain stable lasting relationships that get labeled BPD and are seen as manipu;ators which is I see as a huge flaw in the education of individuals with the power to attach labels on others. My DSM-IV class was interesting and there is a whealth of information out there about the dis-service done by attaching labels. If your interested in that topic you should read some of Spanos' work he says we create a cyclical illusion of explaination for behavior (why does a person act like a schophrenic. . . because he is schophrenic. . .why is he schophrenic. . . because he acts like a person with schophrenia)but there are lots of opportunities to open the other student's minds about topics like homosexuality and DID. I am currently in a course on Group Therapy this course requires that we meet in groups of 7-8 for an hour and a half each week for nine weeks. Having been in group therapy watching the process and learning about it makes me more aware of the things I did when I was in group therapy. The standards are getting tougher each year so if you really want to follow that path do it soon.

I hope I have given some of the information you asked for and not so much to scare you away because the feild needs competent poeple who can really relate to others.

I hope also that I haven't bored you to tears either.

Thanks » DJB

Thanks DJB. Yeah I wonder about the label thing too. Part of me feels like it helps to put be able to put a name to what we're feeling. but another part of me thinks that this is only someones opinion based on evidence, objective and subjective some assumption and inferrence and their experience and beliefs. I'm also not convinced that being labelled one thing doesn't in and of itself influence the way you think about your self and the way you interpret stuff that happens.

But I may also just be babbling out of complete ignorance. Alexandra_k refered to Spanos in one of wonderful series of posts on 'Writing' and from memory I think he kind of got my bristles up.

Don't worry you definitley didn't bore me to tears.

Take good care hey.

If you have any other thoughts or questions that I can answer just ask. By the way except for the labeling thing Spanos gets my hackles up too!

And me.

I try to present him 'fairly'

But I still can't help seeing his approach as just punishing alters until they disappear.

Ugh
Ugh
Ugh

Sometimes fair is difficult if the person is not presentable that way. He definately has his baises.

Yeah.
Though we all do.
There isn't any such thing as the 'view from nowhere'
(Unless you are talking about a hypothetical objective POV)
But there isn't any such thing really.
IMO of course.
There is a faith board here.
I should tell you that.
There are loads of boards.
I got diagnosed.
The expected.
Just a month or so ago.
Trying to get to work with a t.
It is a long battle.
Long story.
I'll share it sometime.
But it might be happening
It might be happening.
:-)
I'm glad you have come to Babble.
