I work at a Philharmonic Symphony and the Phil Music School... (adults and kids).... and I was asked this morning to fill in for a show tonight. They need me to sing a few White Stripes songs! I was so flattered, I had to say yes. Now I'm scared- haha.
My guitar teacher makes me sing when I play a song... and I play White Stripes all the time, so he dropped my name last night when their lead singer came down with the flu. They came in this mroning and asked me to sing right then and there- so I did... and they said - "you got it". I can't beleive this is happening! Haha... I don't sing!! Thank god my OCD has made me memorize all these lyrics!
So I'm singing the following song, on a stage, in front of people (Brown U and other college kids mostly):
Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground
Seven Nation Army
Cold, Cold, Night
We Are Going to Be Friends (the Napoleon Dynamite song)
Hypnotize
Fell in Love with a Girl (which I will change into a boy)
Hello Operator (MY FAVORITE!)
and
Hotel Yorba (last song)
I'm so beside myself right now! I'm so excited!!
Good thing I have an all-red dress to wear, and my hair is dark.. I fit the part now!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh
oh yeah, I'm a rock star

I'm sure you'll be wonderful. Tell us all about it tomorrow?
That OCD can be occasionally convenient, can't it?

Funny thign is,I have been able to control the OCD for about 2 years now- the only thing I let it go crazy on is playing the same song over and over again- but only if I'm in the car by myself. Yeah, it did something good.
Thanks Dinah! I'll let you all know if I pass out and embarass myself (hahaha)
I'm walking on air!

Kudos and congrats! You should be very proud of yourself and your talent! Something to pass on to and share with the little one you have on the way! There is almost nothing more beautiul than music and being able to share the gift of music with others.
Have fun, and best of luck to you.

Thank you so much- you are so sweet :)
Music is very important to me... my job here is to actually work with children who play instruments... you'd be amazed at how quickly they pick things up. Of course having me playing rock music helps to keep them interested too. hehe.
Music is winderful because it speaks to people of all ages, cultures, launguages, genders, etc.
Music, movies, art and literature... a few of my most favorite things :)

Think of me around 10:30 eastern time... and cross your fingers for me! Haha. I'm drinking tea like a mad woman.
I think after work I'm going to drive around the city and sing to myself.
Who knew that singing to yourself in the car would pay off one day?
It's not like you need a great range to sing The White Stripes, either... I must add. though, it is hard to sing like a rock star- you need to get scratchy at some points, and you need to yell in tune.
I like yelling :)
Thank you rainbow!

-- So true! And, it can unite people in a way simple conversation can not at times (IMHO anyway). I mean, and not to sound corny or anything, as an example, look at how the simple act of people joining together to sing their country's national anthem can affect and even move a group of people (maybe we should try Mozart or Chopin instead of guns and heavy artilary to stop wars).

It seems so simple, but it's TRUE! Think about how much music reaches all corners of the Earth... it speaks to more than ANY book, ANY politican, ANYTHING. At least in my humble opinion.
10 minutes and I'm off to rehearsal!

Bon chance! Go out there and WOW em! But remember above all else - enjoy yourself and give yourself a nice, loving pat on the back for your accomplishment :-)

This is terrible for me to say to you Angie but I'm terribly envious of you.
Be wonderful, you're there now, as I type, you're probably waiting in the dressing room to go on. You're wearing a red dress and you're brunette. You're excited, thrilled, really happy. Your cheeks are a bit flushed, because this is so fabulous. And soon you'll be up there, singing your pipes out, having a great time, really into it, and everyone out there feels it too and it comes back at you in waves, waves of emotion that lift you to a new high.I'm so envious. Performing must be incredible ....:)

That's right now! Cool. I'm so excited for you. I wish we could all be there cheering you on.
Break a leg! (do you say that to singers? How 'bout break a nail?)

Thank you all for your support!
It went very well... I had a lot of fun- in fact there was a request for a song, and I knew the words, so I felt like a hero. I was a rock star, never thought I would ever get that chance... and I did well.
Then I went home and threw up a lot.
Morning sickness now has a hold on me... Blah

Funny you say that... there was another girl that actually sang one of the songs with me (It's True That We Love One Another has two girls and a guy) is prego too, but about 6 months- she was crossing her fingers that I wouldn't get sick... she gave me some green tea on stage, and I think it helped... either that or it was totally mind over matter.
I still can't believe I did it- I think abotu it now and think "That was me?" Haha. My throat still hurts, I dont' know how real rock stars yell and sing like that all the time. Guess that's why they get paid the big bucks (I, however, got paid $50) haha.
