*so will that be like being in open?
is it for control?
how many would be able to post?
would the board look different?
I like the look of this board, will it look different?
I tried to follow that post on admin....
I got lost.
so only certain people could post?If I'm not invited to post on one of the boards....
would I look through the windows and feel left out?
will it feel like an elite country club?or would it be that if I wanted to post but the site was full I’d have to wait till someone left then I could join?
It appears that certain threads are like private conversations already.
certain sites are inhabited by some of the same people discussing the same or similar topics (faith board). It seems we settle into where we are comfortable.
There are certain boards I almost never visit but like to drop in occasionally.what I didn’t like about Psy Central was the look of the boarders and the visual activity.
It seemed to be more focused on the people not the topics.
psycho babble seems to have the topic headers as the point of interest then the people who posted them.
I like how the threads are in a bunch and then the new comments are highlighted.
I hope our virtual home town won’t destroy the look and feel of the neighborhood.
You know suburbs, shopping malls (ads), gentrification....and all that.

I haven't read that thread on admin. It seems so long and I feel like an intruder who is coming into the conversation late. Maybe I'll read but not post.
I wonder if it will lead others to feel left out and unwanted. It could very well lead me to feel that way with being so fragile and feeling unloved to begin with. As Jai already said, there are threads here on social that i don't participate in because they seem to be between certain posters and I didn't get in at the start so I haven't even read them. But then again, that's just my thoughts and I haven't read that thread and I'm sure all of this has been discussed.

Well, that's the thing. You aren't an intruder on that thread. Or any other. If people are posting in public you can add your two cents.
Right now anyway.
On most boards. Don't try to greet a newcomer though on the newbie board tho. :)

DinahRight now? I don't understand and what would be so wrong for me to greet a newcomer through the newbie board. I think that is absolutely absurd. Wouldn't a newcomer feel more welcome with the more people that post to them? None of this makes any sense to me at all. BTW, I'm not putting you down with my comments, just really not understanding these rules whatsoever.

elitist? That's how some people will interpret it. I see no good that can possibly come from this at all. Of course, that being said with not reading the thread, which I guess I should but I just feel so overwhelmed when a thread is lengthy and I didn't get in at the beginning. Somehow, if this goes through, I predict that people will leave. They will feel left out. JMHO FWIW.

I agree with you, which was what I was saying.
As it stands right now, unless you're a newcomer or official greeter you can't reach out to someone on the newbie board. You'll get smacked in the face with a notice that you aren't allowed to post on that board. I don't understand the rationale behind limiting the number of potential responders to a newcomer's post, but Dr. Bob apparently thinks it's for the good of the board.
Mind you, I think official greeters are a grand idea. I just can't see the point in not letting others respond at all.
But Dr. Bob does. Perhaps he could explain his rationale.

You see, this is just the beginning of it. I started reading the thread, oyi it is long, I'm up to Jan 27th. I've made no comments and won't until I'm up to date. I don't want to comment on something that may already be settled further down the thread.
I for one would be very sad if you left. I feel that we made a bond here and I would be losing a friend, someone who reached out to me in a very loving and kind way.
And so the exodus starts . . .

Dinah
Yes, since writing my reply to you I have read some of that very long thread and I feel I understand where most people's feelings lie.
Are the newbies allowed to post on any other forum other than the one designated to them? I have been to several psych forums and this is the *only* one that is set up this way. I see absolutely no purpose to this and if I were a newcomer then I would feel that I wasn't good enough to post with everyone else if I could only stay on that one forum. The whole thing boggles my mind and I see absolutely no good that can come out of this. What I see is a lot of hurt feelings from people who will not be included in these new small boards and a mass exodus. I for one just may follow fallen and leave. This is like separating blacks and whites all over again. Have we not learned from that to treat everyone as equals? Apparently not.... but as usual, Bob will do what Bob wants to do regardless of what anybody else has to say anyway. As a pdoc does he not understand the implications that can occur by going forth with this ridiculous idea????

Coming from a girl that gives EVERYONE and EVERYTHING the benefit of the doubt and wants nothing more than to help people- I can tell you that Psych Central is not worth your time. There are egg shells all over tha place, and Dr. john showed me today that he isn't in it to help.... Dr. John totally appalled me and accussed me of nonsense on my very first day! And it was all because he found out I am a PB poster.
So sad

Sorry sweetie, didn't mean to confuse anyone, I guess I'm used to using these abbreviations as I've a number of years under my belt from a number of forums. FWIW - for what it's worth. I used another one in another post I made and I'll probably confuse anybody that sees that one too. ;) I know how overwhelming and daunting it is to read that thread that is so bloody long but I started tonight, straight from the first post. I'm now up to the end of Jan 26th. I've got a ways to go before I'm caught up and of course, I'll have to read faster than everybody else is still responding for me to make any headway. I don't intend to join in the conversation until I am up to date as I don't want to repeat something that may already have been dealt with. Give it a try girl.

> Jai NarayanThey would be message boards like this and not chat rooms like Open. The idea is to for them to have a cozier feel by being smaller. They would look the same, except they might have different background colors.
I was thinking (1) there could be maybe 15-50 posters per board, but other possibilities are (2) giving each one the power to come up with its own policy regarding size or (3) just letting supply and demand determine how large they grew.
Invitations was an early idea that was dropped. People might feel left out of ones that were up and running, but they'd always be able to start new ones themselves. And the current boards would stay open. And there would still be Open, and babblemail.

Sure, wherever they like! But I think sometimes it's intimidating, so I thought a place just for them to get their feet wet would help them get into the swing of things.

Sorry, but please respect the views of others and be sensitive to their feelings. Some people do like it there.
If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.
